As discussed more fully in my other thread http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=126297 a career I'd like to start is one where I either sail from europe over large distances, or transfer to the more 'interesting' ports. We're talking Penang, Jakarta, Salmis, Spezia and Constanza. I know quite a few people like to go to the Carribean (wouldn't we all!).
Or maybe you go to the South Atlantic or Med from Europe.
So I'd like to hear from people who have been there in their Uboot and whether they liked it, or whether they thought it was a waste of time. Any helpful comments at all would be welcomed.
P.S. in my other thread I'm talking about GWX, but here I don't mind if it's GWX or stock (patched).

I have personally been to the Mediterranean and down the entire west coast of Africa. I remember how much it felt like the rest of the areas around Great Britain and Germany. I went into Capetown and Freetown, and one thing that was interesting was the way that the land looked. I parked my sub in a little bay one night to avoid the patrols that were out. It felt kind of weird and cool.

Also, as I stated earlier, i am looking to perhaps go patrolling in the Caribbean like Captain Jack Sparrow...apparently there are TONS of naval convoys there and unprotected freighters.

One of my most successful patrols ever was to the Carribbean. I was too busy plotting my course on the map to get a tan.... Aruba is a good spot for tanker traffic.

However, I must admidt that aside from their geography all bodies of water in this sim feel the same to me.

Wow torplexed, this is a really awesome screenie you got here..are you using GWX, and is that the reason why it looks the way that it does? Also, i like you gave us aspiring Kaleuns something to go off of. I will most assuredly be heading towards the Caribbean...Aruba, Jamaica....etc.

Actually if memory serves that cruise was done in the stock game, pre-GWX. In GWX you usually run into a bit more opposition in terms of air and sea patrols by mid 1942. Certainly by 1943. Plus, there are more Allied bases on the map. My route might have been a bit more circuitous and roundabout then. ;)

Torplexed, how did you get your forum icon like that...is there something special that we need to do?
Or do we just need to be really cool like you?
Unfortunately, the weather is the bloody same regardless where you go. But a few times while in somewhat exotic localles the weather cooperated and I got the feeling of being in a nice place, like having a swim call in the Cape Verdes and buying lobsters there.

You just need an aptitude for art or drawing and a nice graphics application...and a place on the web to host 'em.
Sometimes think I should go back to one of my SH3 signature images tho...:hmm:
