It appears that microsoft engineered a kill switch into Vista:

Must be nice to have a monopoly on the OS market.

LOL "We have seen a drop in piracy"...maybe thats because people who would do this normally think Vista sucks :rotfl:;)

But the tool has suffered from glitches since it was introduced with many Windows users claiming that legal copies of Vista had been disabled.

Sounds to me it was doing them a favor in preventing further tension and anger resulting in the owner taking a nice big hammer to it. ;)

I am feeling a bit Cynical.

Microsoft are a bunch of publicity whores.

No, the drop in pirate downloads isnt because people are scared of your new 'tool', its because your latest OS sucks so badly it actually hurts my eyes.

Your stupid little spinny folders and your glitchyass clock that tells you how rainy it is in Seattle are all great features for morons with ADD. Those of us who piss away money time after time buying the faeces you churn out actually want something thats rustic, works and doesnt have all this useless rubbish slowing things down.

The only vast technological advances you made in Vista was accomplishing the previously ridiculous notion that you could make an operating system with more bugs than stock XP had. Games dont work. Programs dont work. Those of us without the money to buy computer upgrades all the time are stuck with mammoth memory loss because you've prissied up what was a good, functional interface in XP.

You've stolen everyone's good ideas and passed them off as your own. Compare the look of a Vista desktop, and that of a Mac. Funny how IE suddenly has Tab and Addon support (which is rubbish) a couple months after people started replacing IE with Firefox.

Windows Genuine Advantage Tool? Where's the advantage? All it does is send private information to you monkeys. God knows what its sending.

Jesus, if people on the internet werent so good and brought out workarounds for all those niggly bugs in your OS, you might actually have to work. God forbid.

(That felt good)

Wouldn't XP get locked as well if you didn't validate it after 30 days?

Just another vista bashing thread.

Yes it would. And to a degree, I concur with your Vista Bashing comment. But!!!

Vista will get bashed the same way XP did et al. And to a large extent it deserves it. Once SP2 is out, it'll probably work well.

This could easily be a publicity campaign by MS to tell the world that Vista is so secure, they can disable some of it's (albeit broken) security features. I doubt it'll increase sales though and--as usual--I could be just plain wrong.

I'm not about to defend Vista, although i'd be lying if I said I had any major problems with it.

I do however hear horror stories from people who use a PC for more professional purposes than myself so I know how Vista currently sucks. But your right Peto, the same thing happened with XP.

You know what though, it happens with every PC game as well! How many times have you hung around a new games forum and heard people crying "BOYCOTT" and "CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT!!" Do you really expect an operating system to come out bug free when game companies can't even do it for a piece of entertainment?

Patches, I hate them but love them. I just wish we didn't NEED them!

I compare the OS on my computer to the Hallway in my house, it's a way toward better things, If I clutter up my hallway with lots of decorations and other junk, there would be no way for me to get to the living room, and no money for me to buy a some nice furniture, or central heating, or a TV

Vista is like putting 3 Bicycles, a Ladder, your entire CD collection, and one enormous kitchy but expensive statue in your Hallway, pointless.

It sucks to do tech support on it too.... :stare:

Lol in my experiance it doesn't matter what OS your dealing with. Tech support will always suck because there will always be someone out there calling for help because they haven't turned the power on. :rotfl:

The "kill switch" is old news. Notice, btw, that the article you cite states that they're dropping it from SP1.
