Is it just me, or fighting some rogue idiot government in ArmA is just not the same as some rogue Soviet general as found in the original OFP series? THe story was just better in the original OFP. Also, the oppurtunity to steal more equipment and use it against the enemy was present in OFP. This is missing in ArmA. I mean, I stole some T-72's a couple times, but for the most part it was a boots on the ground campaign.
Is it just me? Or is it even harder to sneak into enemy lines in ArmA? Some of the missions I find to be somewhat impossible. The side mission to sneak in and blow up enemy armor I found to be near impossible. You couldn't get near that base with all the foot traffic without being spotted, and the enemy didn't even have NV goggles.
The sunsets were sometimes better in OFP too. I remember the dark red sky.
Anyway, the Harrier is fun to fly in ArmA. Too bad you never get to use it in campaign.
I guess ArmA is not bad for an engine, but the campaign needs much work. The ending is probably those most anti-climax of all time. Of course, I understand this was a rushed campaign to get it out the door before the doors actually closed due to lack of funds. Hopefully the update will be what I am looking for in ArmA.
Just blowing off my disappointment with the ending in ArmA.

PS. THe Harrier is the ultimate explore the islands aircraft. Take it out, and head out into the world. You can land it pretty much anywhere and it only takes a small strip to get it off the ground - any short stretch of road will do.

Amen to that. The story in OFP was TONS better than what it is in ArmA. Especially loved the ending mission with everyone getting together to have an cold one and remember the past days.

Yep, it's a good engine, like was in OFP... oh wait... ArmA has 90% unchanged engine from OFP. :p:up:

Just might re-install ArmA and get into the Harrier a bit more. Just quickly tried it. :hmm:

I fully agree! :yep:
That little island feeling is missing for me. Maybe saharani is too big? Or are the missions written with less love to details?
I find there's a lack of personality and depth to the characters. In OFP you got to know them and see them around while playing other characters and get the "Hey, I know that guy!" feeling. Also, the missions are too "militaristic" and there's isnt any innovations in them like for example the POW escape mission in OFP, which blew my socks off back then.
But luckily it has strong community and I'm sure there will be some great campaigns written to it in the future.

The campaign is pathetic and should be swept under the rug, not under the spot-light. You're so cruel SUBMAN! :rotfl:
Campaign aside, it's a superior game to OFP.
EDIT: Actually, I preferred the flight controls of OFP.

...EDIT: Actually, I preferred the flight controls of OFP.You mean, the general lack of a somewhat real flight model? I guess it wasn't bad, but ArmA's flight model is heads above that of OFP. Try to barrel roll a helo in OFP - you can't. You can in ArmA though!

I hear that. It had a professional touch. I especially loved the last mission to get Guba. So so so many different ways to finish it, but I prefered the Hind gunship method. Find the out of fuel hind, grab a fuel truck, get the hind gassed up, and you now have the most devastating thing you can steal from the enemy - that is if you can deal with the SHilkas. The Hinds missiles never tracked like the hellfires did, and you typically got one chance to kill a Shilka before death rained down on your parade.
I miss that mission. I remember getting shot down in the Hind near the nuke, surviving, and finishing it off with a LAW. Great feeling that is. I never got any feeling of accomplishment in ArmA. I think that is the problem.
Anyway, as said above, maybe I am being cruel. I guess its just the way I feel about it though.
Playing through the Russian camapign - also great!
And to top it off, they gave you even more in Resistance!
OFP is one of my top games of all time. ArmA just falls short is all and it is the comparrison that makes me realize how much more OFP was.

PS. The best way to describe it - I have lasting memories walking away from OFP. I however do not remember much about ArmA other than the decent gunship missions. Got shot down at the last moment on the Big Battle in the gunship, and hoofed it back to base for a completed mission! THat was memorable - especially since I ran across a few enemies on the way back and offed them!
PPS. Where is my Hind in ArmA??? The KA-50 werewolf is not as dreadful to see flying around.
