If I change or delete a sound file, would I have to update the sh3.sdl file? or as long as the new file has the original file name, then all is taken care of?

my problem: the sound volumes are strange, you can't hear stuff or the volume differs unless you are facing the source. I have read an earlier post about this and have been searching the forums and can't find it again. I'll search more and maybe look for a sound Mod. I like the realism of 3d sounds, but if I turn my head 90 degrees I should still at least faintly hear it. gets annoying after awhile.

possible fix: toggle between 2 channel stereo and 5.1 surround on the speakers
or maybe reinstall a different sh3.sdl file

..........gotta go back and see what I changed to cause this

********sound tweaks*********

-----radioman------

I really don't like the low voiced radioman (found in data/sound/speech_en/6) so, I copied the speech_en/3 RaM files and pasted over the RaM files inside speech_en/6, thus changing his voice............I have read about using the tweaker program to edit the sh3.sdl file and change it to a higher pitch, but, I don't have the tweaker program downloaded yet and this was a quickfix.

------"WooHoo!!!!-------

I never did like the "PUMP" in data/library....(from IuB Mod)....the guy yells "woohoo" when you hit/sink a ship. This file I reverted back to the stock original PUMP file, but then the guy just stood still in my command room with his arms stretched out, tried to fix, then just his head would show....floating in midair. So, I changed it back to IuB's "pump", and this fixed the graphics, but the guy still yells "woohoo".

this is how I fixed it:

I didn't know if deleting the files alltogether would cause a hiccup in the game, so, I did it the hard way by leaving the files in the game to be recognized, yet, they were tweaked.

From data/sound/speech_en/1 I copied the Ono_Cheers01 file to desktop. Using dbpoweramp music converter, I converted this to a wma file (I think it was wma, doesn't really matter). I then opened this new file in windows sound recorder and from the beginning of the file, used Edit button to "delete after current position" thus erasing it. I made 5 copies of this named Ono_Cheers01 through Ono_Cheers05. Then (and this was probably not needed) I converted them all back to ogg files. I copied these new files into each of the 9 voice files found in speech_en, overwriting them one file at a time because some files only have Ono_Cheers01 through Ono_Cheers04 (not all 5). Worked like a charm.

OK, I think I figured it out.

with a 6 speaker, 5.1 system, turning on "matrix" makes the difference.

also, if you are making movies with fraps, in control panel/sounds/speakers set it to 2 channel instead of 5.1 (records much better....no missing audio)

sounds much better

Sounds like you dancing with some danerous dynamite. did you save your files before modifying?
