"...If you want a shooting gallery, this mod isn't it."

Completed my 1st war patrol in Thresher (Dec '41 - Feb '42) off Hokkaido. Found - and sank - plenty of fishing boats, but, only 2 merchant contacts (which I sank).
Now on my 2nd patrol - East China Sea - 1 small merchant sank and almost at the point - on fuel - of having to head home.

I'm curious as to what type of search patterns work the best (?).

Whats working for me is that i patrol the ordered area for 48 hours or what the order says, and head for the ship lanes and patrol along them or something. Or another one is to go close to buzzy harbours.
Sorry but this is all i can give you. Hope its working for you

If, you're ever near sourthern Honshu. I find it quite lucrative to wait at the mouth of bungo or kii suido at periscope depth using sonar. I've caught quite a few convoys this way.

And where are the shipping lanes ? The only "shipping lane" I've found in TM is near the Formosa Straits.

I really like this mod. It combines just the right amount of reality and fun in my view. :D

I agree...a fantastic mod. It's certainly forced me to be much less nonchelant about my attcks though- especially task forces. The DD's get on me as soon as I THINK about making an attack :o. No more waiting for the convoy/task force to come along while I wait on a perfect perpendicular course at periscope depth. After reading some posts, it sounds like it's best to hang out under the thermal layer until the lead escort passes overhead, then surface to collect torpedo data? Any tips are always appreciated. Love the mod, love the game...
