View Full Version : Framerate drop/Monolith problem

In every version of the sim, including 1.4, I will get apparently random framerate drops. It usually happens at night--sometimes its the whole view--other times it seems centered around the wake of the boat--either bow or stern. I get 60fps all the time, except when this anomoly happens. The FPS drops to like 2-3 fps. :damn:

My latest attempt, I completely uninstalled--fresh install of game, applied 1.4 (no mods).

My system specs:

Vista
Core Duo @ 2.66
2 gm RAM
GeForce 8800 GTS (320mb)

Have you ever looked at this thread. Might be something in there.

I do not drop that drastically but I do get some slow downs. Often I look under my desk (I have a big computer desk and my computer is under the desk) and I find the hard drive is working out something or doing a task. Perhaps your hard drive is working when this occurs?

Thanks--researching now.

I've found if I Alt-Tab to my desktop, and go back--it's back to normal again. hmmm.

Some say alt tab helps with this but that is a pain in the arse. Maybe reduce some the graphics? Perhaps the vid card is having issues handling some of the rendering?

try setting all graphic options down
and then raise them one by one to see if it is one specificaly that causes the stutter

i had hours of fun (i hope you see the sarcasm here) doing this on FSX
but my stutter problems solved ( never had high fps) but they where consistenr

Strange as it sound I found turning Vsync on stopped the slowdowns - with it on im getting a solid 30fps , turn it off an the fps fluctuates between 10 and 30.

Same here. The game runs much smoother with Vsync enabled, even though max FPS isn't any higher than before.

Just curious, have you checked to see what kind of background tasks you have running?

I was having a flickering problem that I thought was due to my ATI card. It turns out the new firewall I'm using pops up a window every time something access the Internet.

It happened so quick, that I thought it was the game, but it was the pop-up interfering with the rendering.

You might want to go to Task Manager and look in the processes tab and see what you have running.

I have the exact same system as you Brandtryan, and no problems.

That's interesting. Would you mind telling me what your graphics settings are--in nvdidia control panel, and in game?
