View Full Version : Problems with 1.4 upgrade
I been having so many problem after loading 1.4 patch & getting
menu ID error. I will be going back to 1.3.
Ubisoft needs th fix this now.

I get no "menu ID" errors with 1.4, in fact it runs just fine. Are you trying to run mods with it or did you install it over a modded 1.3?

Did you deactivate the mods before installing the patch? Are you trying to run a saved game prior to the patch installation?

Some else adivsed me to deinstall sh4/reboot/install sh4/reboot/1.4 patch/
reboot/play. I tried all of this, after the game loads, get " Please Wait"
It still that till I control atl delete. Show Menu ID error.
another guy its the menu: 1024-768.ini.

I'd suggest deleting the SH4 directory after you uninstall it... that way, you can be sure there are no files left over from the previous installation.
If you're running Vista, you may have some "compatibility files (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2704,2124519,00.asp)" left over. I'd suggest installing SH4 under some other directory than the Program Files directory, to avoid that issue entirely.

Make sure you also manually delete the SH4 folder hidden in your "documents and settings" folder, in addition to the regular program folder that contains the game.
I'd suggest deleting the SH4 directory after you uninstall it... that way, you can be sure there are no files left over from the previous installation.

I checked the above. Sh4 is there. I will uninstall SH4. check all files & delete them. I made a new file for SH4 on my hard hard. Should this work.

I did all of that, got to career screen, SH4 crashed.
on regedit- there are 3- SH4 [1]- 1.4 patch [2]= 1.0 & game upate
[3]= {odoo5f.......}
should they all be there.

Strange a large majority of users have no problems applying the patch yet "UBI needs to fix this".
Anyhow hope you get it working.
OK here is my situation. I saved my present campaign after going to port, then installed 1.4. From the installation point it is fine, of course missing the dails in the conning tower, but that's not of major concern. Now I saved my game and returned to it. Now I no longer have any propulsion above 256 time compression. It will return under 64 time compression but in sputters. Now maybe its the save file, I will give it that possibility, or maybe its the program reading the file, that's wrong. Any help would be greatly appretiated.
I got the game to work...........

As for now, i get a strange issue with 1.4...
Game will run just fine until i switch to external view. The game won't and instantly freezes with last 2 seconds of music/sounds forever looping (exactly like when you're about to enter a harbor and game's loading the scene but that goes on forever).
I will try a super clean reinstall and see what it does. I will tell you then, should there be more people that also get this issue :shifty:

Well . . . I got my first CTD playing SH4 ver 1.4 in ages!
Well I guess others have been having difficulty with 1.4 . . . and it's been a bit buggy, but more or less rights itself. However, today, just after sinking a Huge European Liner . . . and having 4 duds in a spread of 6 (2 detonated) (not a glitch) . . . I went deep, silent, and sailed underneath the convoy . . . I wait to nightfall, and surface . . . I come up to another small convoy, and spot two unescorted medium modern composites on the horizen . . . so I get close, line up for a shot of one each with my rear tubes . . . and raise the periscope . . . then all of a sudden CRASH TO DESKTOP.
Damn! And I didn't save after sinking the liner . . . but I can't complain about that patrol really . . . even though it sucks I lost the liner . . . I have sunk 2 Shakokus this patrol . . . and one my first patrol . . . technically impossible since only 2 were built.
Has anyone else been experiencing similar CTDs in similar situations?

Hey" every body!,.....What is this i here about all these little problems with the 1.4 patch?.
If most of you would follow the modders advice and stop trying to run mods that are not compatibale with each other,.. then maby you will have a little better SH4 experience. :up:
Right now iam playing stock sh4 with patch 1.4 only and haveing tones of fun.
No need to get all upset when your favorite mods don't work,...Give it a break! and try to do something else, Like spend time with your family or something", While the modders try to figure out what 1.4 has changed and what they need to do to fix it. :hmm:

I don't run any mods but I've noticed, at least for me anyway, that since 1.4 came out only about half my torpedoes are showing damage on the ships I hit. I mean I may hit a ship three times in the side and only one hole in the ship shows. Never the less I love the patch, finally the Gato class can use it's anti-aircraft gun on deck without the cowling getting in the way ..
Another funny thing happened the other day also, I shot a ship up the backside, the torpedo blew out the underside of the stern and if you used your external view to float over there and look at the damage you could see on the ship that the torpedo had knocked out all the propeller shafts and rudder, yet the propellers were still running like normal but just suspended in space so to speak still turning as fast as ever yet not attached to the ship. That looked so funny.

Hello everyone,
I've been gone for some time. First on some frustrations with the sim and then no time to really sit down and play.
Well started a career a few weeks ago and had a successfull patrol. Sank a destroyer and merchant so far. Used the auto TDC just to get used to all the other controls etc. and will switch over to manual soon.
Loaded 1.4 the other day and am playing stock SH4 as noted by flyingdane. Well went to the conning tower and the main steering area. What do I find but all gauges - depth / speed / course etc. blacked out!!??!!. Since this career was started with 1.3 thought I'd start a new career. Went to the tower and yup all gauges blacked out again!!??!!
What gives? I thought these patches were to correct issues not add to them. It seems the endless "contact long range" while in port is gone - which was the only real pain I still had with 1.3 - but so now are my gauges in the tower.:doh: In the control room and the secondary steering station all is ok.:huh: Not to say that this glitch is going to effect my patrols, but if in the tower I should be able to see what I need to see.
On another note - and I have noticed this through all patches and stock versions - when at the navigation map and while plotting a course or using the other tools - why is the "compass" that "pops" up always reverse? In other words north is down and south is up. So when I go to plot a course west the compass is showing my plot line going east :dead:. If I have a convoy and want to get an idea of where they are to my boat if I pull off my bow and my heading is west or say 270 the "pop up" will show a eastern "projection"!!!!!!
Am I doing something wrong or is this another glitch?:huh:
Well game is great so will keep on sailing - just need a little fix here and there.
