Well, although much was improved in the 1.4 patch, one of the reported bug fixes in the readme is NOT working.

Just got rammed by a Japanese destroyer. When he rammed me all of the damage from the shell hits I took was immediately repaired and the destroyer went down like a ton of bricks.

That's discouraging. I may hold off installing this patch.

It's the old "if there's a single flaw left I quit playing the game" or "if there's a single flaw in the game I won't install it" thread. Ho Hum!:shifty:

Not your fault swdw, but when a thread gets poisoned it usually dies horribly in a cacophany of apocolyptic catastrophizing. (eg. the old perisocope animation hysterics)

Airborne, swdw isn't telling you the patch is no good! He's saying he encountered one instance of it not working completely as advertised. Judgement, grasshopper, judgement.

Wonder if it's possible to do NEGATIVE damage. Perhaps as simple a problem as a type with a - someplace.

Using stock files? In specific, DAT, ZON, and zones.cfg.

Let me get this straight...

It reparied damage ?!? :hmm:

I dont make a habit of running into DD's so to me this is a bit trivial but they did specifically state it would be fixed in the patch notes.

I haven't tried this with DDs, but I can definitely confirm that ramming a Mogami did no damage to my sub. I can't tell if anything was repaired because there was no visible damage to begin with.

This has some precedent in real life, although this is more analogy than perfect precedent. Ever hear of "Flyway Jesus?"

Airlines give preferrential treatment to handicapped people. They provide wheelchairs, help board the people first and load their belongings in the overhead compartment for them. They get special food choices too! (still don't think I would make the trade though).

During the flight to their destination they always meet the "Flyway Jesus" once they are at altitude and upon landing a large percentage of their handicapped passengers simply jump up, abandoning their wheelchair, grab their stuff and walk out of the plane. It's a miracle!

Had the same thing happen. What really happens is your bow hit the onboard magazine.:D

Another cool thing to do is when you book online and its a flight with meals, go Koscher you get much better fare! Love the Flyaway Jesus, excellent!

I just did a test. I used the borneo convoy mission. Sub is a gato. I surfaced and let the akizuki and mutsuki take pot shots til I had internal damage, and some gaping holes. I went to PD, and let both of them ram me a few times.

My sub didn't repair from it, but it also took no damage. The DDs didn't explode, either.

Under what conditions are you seeing this?

After a while, with quite a bit more DC damage from each ramming pass, I surfaced and duked it out with the 40mm gun forward. They sank me (both DDs and several of the merchants hitting me at the same time MANY MANY times). IN the time it took to sink my sub I killed the Akizuki with the AA gun, and had the mutsuki furiously burning.

I think I need to mod all the ship's deck guns up rather a lot. You'd think my sub that was already solid red in the forward torpedo room, had the main pump and con mostly completely destroyed, and virtually every other system already damaged at some level would have sank after the first 10 or 15 five inch shells hit, plus countless AAA rounds. I mean I was hit5-10 times before I was fully surfaced, the boat was swiss cheese based on the damage templates applied.

I agree with tater: either the our subs are way too beefy, or enemy deck guns way too weak. I just did the single mission where USS Skipjack has been cornered in shallow waters and tries to make it to the deeper waters of the Bohol sea. Just to test the damage modelling, I took a Gato and went flank speed towards the nearest gunboat. He managed to dodge my ramming effort while scoring about ten hits with his gun, until my own gunners weren't obscured by the tower anymore and sank the gunboat with about five shots. Several more gunboats appeared, and even though I never managed to ram them, my deck gun crew eventually took care of them. In the end I reached the deeper waters after sinking six gunboats and one subchaser, while taking over 30 hits from enemy deck guns(!), not to mention smaller calibre machine guns. Although my hull looked like swiss cheese, no systems were broken in the end, and my sub was able to submerge to periscope depth just fine. The mission ended right there, so I wasn't able to test how deep she could go.

You would certainly not be able to dive very deep, but frankly, you should have been sunk.

Taking one hit from a DD should cause severe problems if you submerge i'd assume.

I wanna say a 5" in game does something like 20-25 damage points. Your hull is ~500. So a single hit would change your crush depth by ~4%.

I suppose the only good thing about the star trek hull % will be for testing...

Sorry for the delayed response, I teach class after work on Thursday's.

To answer tater's and Ducimus' question, it was with the stock 1.4 files. I had 3 DD's coming down on me in the Battle of Balikpapan. I got close, popped up to the surface and they started blasting me- another curious thing about this mission in a minute.

I had damage to the pressure hull, engines, batteries, periscopes, and the list goes on. Had flooding in 3 compartments.

Went to an external view and turned so I was almost broadside to the charging DD. The DD caught the boat just aft of the sail at about a 70-80 degree angle, slid along the hull and slipped off the stern of the boat. On impact flames started on the DD, and then I got a string of messages that everything was being repaired as fast as the AI could announce them. All previous damage was repaired in less than 5 seconds (I gotta buy that damage control party a few beers :D ) The DD sank in less than a minute. I told the COB welding those spikes on the hull would come in handy. ;)

Think I'll ask sober if he can make me a large red S in a shield instead of a kill flag mod and then fly a cape from the sail :D

Oh yeah, the "curious" thing about the mission. I've tried the following 4 times in this mission. Sneak in slowly and get close to the convoy's starting position after sunrise. Most to all of the ships will already be sunk. Can't win cuz there isn't enough tonnage to sink. Usually you'll just find some ticked off escorts and someteimes one of them will be on fire. Have a feeling the merchants may be hitting the bottom and sinking but no way to prove it. Again this was stock 1.4
