CD drive problem

I got 2 CD drives, they both work fine, i can play games, rip music, burn stuff onto CDs using them and so on. but 1 thing is confusing me, only 1 of the drives appears in the BIOS Boot Priority List:hmm:

I posted this on another Forum but the only thing anybody could think was that both Jumpers were set to "Master". The 1 that is set to "Master" appears on the boot list, but the 1 set to "Slave" dosnt. Are they set up wrong?

Assuming they are IDE drives: The one set to slave has to be connected to the middle of the ribbon cable, the Master drive should be connected to the end of it. That's probably how you have it set now since they are both working... Hmm. Being a computer tech, you've got me wondering too :hmm:.

It is potentially a BIOS issue. Not one I would try to "fix" (I still hate phlashing a BIOS). You might find out more by searching Google with your MBD model # and a "secondary IDE" slave "not recognized".

Ok ive been on google, and it dosnt seem like anyone else has had this problem.

If it helps, i recently ( a few months ago ) had it serviced because the PSU broke, when i got it back, my computer wouldnt boot, so i rang them up and they said open the case up and check the CD Drives are properly plugged in, 1 of them wasnt (the 1 im having problems with) so i plugged it in, and it worked fine, no problems with it since, except the BIOS just dosnt see it in the Boot Priority List which i have only just noticed. Could anything above be the cause of the problem?

In the event that it is a problem with the BIOS, how would i go about fixing it? or do you just reccomend me leaving it?

Many BIOS will only display one optical drive in the actual boot order list. This is normal. Generally there is a different location in your BIOS where you actually select which optical drive shows up in the boot order list, this location should show both your optical drives in it. In other words you cannot set it to scan 'both' optical drives to boot from when starting up, just one or the other.
