Don't own a tank sim game, looks good, but I hope the maps are large and the tactics are many.:hmm:
I have always dreamt about a Silent Hunter-ish game in a tank. Say you play as Gerry in Africa, and start out in a Panzer III, and work your way up to the mighty Tiger. The dramturgy is much the same as in the Arlantic, at first you own the desert, and in the end you get your behind kicked.
The sandy slopes of Africa is much like an ocean, and would be good for fps in a dynamic campaign. Oh my God, this would be so cool.

Panzer Commander? I forgot. I made the mistake of taking on the Germans in my Shermans - uhh - not fun when all a sudden one of your tanks in your platoon just blews up, you knew the dreaded 88 was out there, probably attached to a Tiger! I remember scrambling for cover, just trying to hide my SHerman from the long ranged 88! The hiding spot had to be along the suspected path of the Tiger too, since hitting it in the front was a pathetic mistake. Not only would you 76 mm bounce off (ANd pray you weren't equipped with the pathetic 75 mm), but the return fire was a death sentence. So you'd hide your SHerman, wait for the Tiger to go by and pray that he didn't see your hiding place. Then you'd pound the hell out of his rear!
Playing the German side, you got your Tiger, but I traded that thing in for the ultimate tank of WWII - the Panther! No better tank was produced during WWII. It was fast (THe Tiger was slow), had nearly the same impenetrability of the Tiger, and it's 76 mm was arguably just as powerful as the Tigers 88, meaning you could punch the frontal armor on any Sherman, or any T-34 you came up against. This was the TANK OF WWII!
I miss that game.

Yup, looking forward to getting that one. I still play Panzer Elite and it is good fun, and I used to play Panzer Commander (the old SSI one), but I seem to recall Panzer Commander doesn't like XP. As good as Panzer Elite is, the graphics are somewhat dated these days, so a shiny new WW2 tank sim would be cool, although it's a shame it aint the Panther rather than the Tiger, the Panther was much more usable in heavy terrain (it being designed specifically to be lighter and more suited to Russian terrain, in order to take on the T-34), I think it was better looking too!

I own Panzer Commander, can't get it to run, though. Maybe I should give it another try?

Yep - the Panther was the ultimate WWII tank. Our modern M1-Abrahms is even based on it.

First off sweet game, second have anyone tried red orchestra? or wwiionline?
if you havent give it a go, nice big maps in ro and you can drive from arnhem to cherbourg in wwiionline if you feel like it, ( would take you a day or 2+ RL ) but its fun as hell,
And p.s. is it just me or checking those screens dont the TPanzer look a bit compressed? it just looks like it is small and fat?

If you want a tank sim I can't suggest Steel Beast Pro PE strongly enough.
The tactics are absolutely authenitic.
The $125 price tag is more than worth it.

I'd love to get a copy of Steel Beasts Pro PE (I've been drooling over it for a year now), but I just don't have the cash to plop down for it.
I do have a copy of the original Steel Beasts though and it's a pretty damn good little sim. But comparing the two is like comparing Silent Hunter and Silent Hunter III !

I like the tank sims also and this one looks great. Steal Beasts is a bit to much money for sure. Is this tank sim available?
