Just in time for Christmas, the book that was built by SUBSIM.
http://www.subsim.com/almanac/2008_final_softcover2.jpg

Excerpts, contents, and ordering info here (http://www.subsim.com/almanac08/)

This book contains never-before information about some of the subsims that shaped the genre: Fast Attack and Silent Hunter II, from the men who made them.

There is an article on submarine warfare policy by Capt. Zeb Alford, skipper of the USS Shark and USS Sam Houston.

There are four very well-written works of original fiction from our own Subsim members:
Grant Swinbourne,
Andrew Glenn
Chris Weisensel
Alan Bradbury

A scholarly essay on the "Almost Successful" war patrol of the Argentine submarine ARA San Luis by Mariano Sciaroni with J. Matthew Gillis

Foreword by Michael DiMercurio, author of Voyage of the Devilfish and Vertical Dive.

Tales from the Torpedo Room, a series of humorous vignettes by Don Meadows, author Of Ice and Steel.

A thesis on Submariner Speech from WWII to Present by Prof. Tammy L. Goss

There is original art, Subsim Roll Call, a Submarine Dictionary, U-boats, nuke subs, shore leave adventures,
and quite a bit more. This is a good time to tell your honey what you want, nay, what you deserve for Christmas! :) Order before Dec 8 and receive your copy before Christmas.

The 2008 Submarine Almanac, 328 pages of submarine everything, the book by your naval website.

cheers
Neal

The Almanac is on my Christmas list but I have three other Christmas lists to handle first. High maintenance #1(wife), high maintenance #2(daughter) and high maintenance #3 (daughter). Under those three Christmas lists is my piece of parchment with a line or two of things I would like:oops:

Well, I received the book a week ago.

I couldnīt read a lot of it (as everybody knows, the Xmas season is very demanding), but some articles / stories: "Cinematic Sub Stuff", "A sub and crew worthy of the name Texas", "Tales from the torpedo room" and "Looking back at Fast Attack".

The four are really well-written stories.

Cinematic Sub Stuff is an instant classic. When I ended "The Legend of Odin" (Submarine Almanac 2007) I admired the satiric humour and sarcasm of Mr. Armstrong. Well, Cinematic... is even better, in all aspects.

A sub and crew was written by Neal. No higher praise for an article.

Tales from the Torpedo is a collection of humour vignettes about the real life in a modern sub, written by a proffesional author and former COB. Very good ones.

And you can miss Looking back at Fast Attack if you have the slightest interest in submarine simulators (and if not, why are you reading this forum?)

Also, the rest of the book looks very promising too.

So, the book worths its weight in gold.

Just my two cents...

Cool! I get paid in two weeks, and I actually have a bank account again!

What? don't believe me? I can prove it! My number is...hey, wait a minute! You can't fool me that easily! I'm on to your little tricks! This whole thread is just a ploy to rip poor old Steve off for his life savings of $12.36!

I truly cannot believe anyone actually looks at my personal website! :o But Thanks Neal! I truly enjoyed the book and I could not say enough for it. To me it is a 'must read' for any and all submarine enthusiast out there in the community. BTW this is the same review that will be posted soon at SimHQ.com, so this is sort of a 'preview' that will be forthcoming on a more widespread site.

Enjoy!

Aye, I see it in all its glory at SimHQ (http://www.simhq.com/_naval/naval_031a.html) too, many thanks, Tom. Not many small websites have their own yearly book published, I'm proud to be part of it.

May be considered small, but has a HUGE following! As they always say, "size does not matter'! :D
