Hi -
Its been a while since I've posted.
Really had some good times with SH2, and was going to buy SH3 until I read about the Starforce issues people were having - locking up and disabling drives, etc. So I never got SH3.
I've seen some threads talking about 'new' versions of SH3 that don't have Starforce on them. Is this true, and where can you get one?
(And I'm not talkking anything illegal here.)
Thanks
BJ

The latest official version of SHIII which I bought from Amazon still has the SF drivers on but they no longer require a serial number to 'activate' the game after installation and doesn't do the 'disk check' routine prior to opening the game, at least not on screen.
I looked in the 'device manager-view hidden devices' and the SF drivers were there. The only issue they caused with my system, was that some of my older games refused to run and I had to disable the SF drivers through the device manager to make them work, then re-enable them to play SHIII. This is from my own experiences with both the older release of SHIII bought about a year and a half ago, and the latest release (Ubisoft 'exclusive' range for XP and Vista) bought last week. My older games will still not run with the SF drivers enabled, but it is a simple matter to disable/enable them through the device manager and restart.

Hi the current SH3 Starforce can be deleted. Just go find the official starforce site and you'll find a downloadable tool to erase starforce from your machine and yes you still can keep on playing SH3 without it. Good luck

Nope, you can't carry on playing withour SF. It's installed everytime you start the game with the disc in the drive.:yep:

Trying to stay within Subsims rules here.:D

What you need to do:

Step 1)Use the Starforce removal tool.
Step 2)Find a way to run SH3 without needing the disc.
Step 3)Reboot.
Step 4)Play.

Phew, I think I'm OK and with no mention of the.......................

I have a version without serial too. But I cannot find SF Driver, can you please post a screenshot.

Did you possibly not remove the SF Driver with the driver removal tool ?

You need to 'view hidden devices' to find them. The game was installed on a new HD when I upgraded my system. I used the tool and cleaned the registry, so I assume the SF drivers are those which came with the new version.

It depends ...
Recently I got a DVD from Amazon, already patched to 1.4, no serial on the DVD. SHIII runs well without DVD in Drive. SHIII does not care if DVD is in drive or not. Seems as if it is SFfree although on the jewelcase its mentioned that there is a copy protection.

Just made this screenshot.
It seems as if my system is not infected.

That's very odd. I might have missed something in the registry I supose.

Cleaning the registry is not enough. You must use the SFremovaltool to get rid of this pest.
