I've been playing SH3 and GWX since day one and I've only encountered a battleship a few times. All of those times I was either out of torps or I got spotted and never got a shot off:damn: .

...Well not this time;)

I was just west of the Rockall Banks when I got a convoy sighting report.

The U-99 (us the U-99:yep: ) races south to intercept!

Smoke on horizon!
That's no freighter...it's a destroyer and its heading straight at us!

Torpedo eins...los
...hit! scratch the lead corvette!

I'm now ahead of the convoy, right in the middle! a perfect attack position...

...picking targets...
4 whale factory ships..2 small tankers.... and a large shadow...
HMS Nelson!!!!:/\\k: :ahoy:

Make ready tubes 1-3, set depth 12 meters:lurk:
Torpedo eins....los
zwei...los
drei.... los

waiting.....
torpedo one...passes under battleship, as does 2 and 3!
#@$%^#@!!!
I set the torps 1/2 a meter too deep! @#$$ing bad luck
I reset number 4 a half meter shallower...los
Periscope spotted and destroyed by gunfire! @#$%@%$# not @#$$ing again observation scope damaged!:damn:
A hit, in the magazine!!!

The battleship slows to a stop.

I go deep to reload and ditch the escort looking for me.

I circle around and surface to repair the observation scope.

Battleship spotted, dead in the water! Dive!
Scope is spotted again!! Ahail of gunfire from the wounded beast...

Not this time Mr. Battleship!
Fire one!
Fire two!
........
:lost:
2 hits!
Iron Crosses for everybody! Beer's on the Captain;)

Kudos nikimcbee!!! I know how hard it is to find a task force to begin with much less sink a BB.

Here are some pix of my last two patrols.

I've sank a few. But it never gets old, does it? It's a special feeling sending one to the bottom

You can knock off large numbers of merchants, make escorts depth charge the wrong area of ocean and down half the RAF with your 20mm pop gun. But nothing, repeat nothing, beats the thrill of sinking a large capital ship!:arrgh!:

Well done!

My congratulations to you...you are truly an example for the rest of us lowly Lt. to follow.

Just curious, what realism setting were you on? I am asking so I know what I have to aspire to.

Don't worry about the Rodney, I got her last night :D

I was bouncing around in the middle of a howling gale when I managed to intercept (read: blundered into) a convoy. Working on the theory that I couldn't see anything, so they couldn't see me, I surfaced and tried to find something to sink in the murk. All of a sudden, a gigantic shadow loomed up about 400 metres in front of me, heading right across my bows. I caught sight of a number of VERY large guns before snap shooting two torpedoes at the stern, raising the U-56's battle cry of "Run away!!' and crash diving. There were two explosions and the Rodney seemed to be unable to decide to catch fire or just fall apart, so it did both. Within two minutes it had gone, just leaving behind a number of mystified escort Swans asking each other if they had seen the BB that was there a minute ago :D
