I have been thinking of getting this sim. I have SHIII and thought it was great in general, but I had a problem with the AI.

Has there been any improvements with AI since SHIII?

Is this title worth getting?

Thanks

I think it's worth getting. There probably isn't ever gonna be an AI that matches the craftiness and creativity of a human being, but under the right conditions that often exist in the Pacific...like shallow water...it can make your life miserable.

Welcome back by the way. :D

It's definately worth getting IMO.

The AI got a big fix in the last patch and with Ducimus' T-Maru mod you need to be pretty careful of the tin cans. I'm pretty sure the next patch will contain another fix for AI but I can't confirm it.

Choosing to buy the game depends on how much you like the style. I've loved subsims for years so of course i'd enjoy SH4. I also purchased Crysis the other day and while it's a great game i'll still spend more time on SH4 which I purchased the day it was released.

The difference between the stock AI and a mod like Trigger Maru is significant. Personally, I find it to be reasonably realistic and definitely challenging. Coupled with several other good mods that have reached a level of maturity, I think SH4 is a must buy for Submarine sim fans.

My take: The escorts won't spread out and go into a search pattern mode if they lose contact of you. But they do a decent job of keeping me honest (and concerned :hmm:).

I've been playing subsims since Gato on the C64 and still think Aces of the Deep had the best AI for this kind of behavior. That said: SH4 is good :yep:! TM 1.6.5 is a very good mod to bring up that challenge level. The escorts may not be smart but thay ain't all stupid either.

Yes, this was my beef with SHIII, I also had SHIII modded up. It played great! Love the 3d, but was disapointed in the AI and it was too easy to beat...even latewar.

Sounds like some work was done in this regard....Mods sound good too....

I may consider it...:hmm:

Wow, that brings back memories, I used to love that game although pulling up to that tender to refuel and rearm was a pain.

As far as this game goes obvioulsy I think it is worth it. Espeically with some of the mods (TM, RSRD ...) installed. Up the difficulty up all the way and you will have a challenge on your hands.

I like both SH3 and SH4...but they really are very different games to me...not even a fair comparison not that one is better than the other, just different
