Running rsrd/row/tmaru and loving the whole package. Question is, whats the official game stance on neutral shipping? Ive been sinking fishing boats and sampan fleets to my hearts content with no apparent penalties. So, I assume if they run dark with no flag they are fair game yes?

Those slime are not neutral, as they feed the bellies of the Japanese sailors who want to kill you. As long as you have deck gun or AA ammunition and save the torps for worthy targets, sink em all. We're not here to make friends. Remember Pearl Harbor. War is hell for them or us. Make sure it's them. :arrgh!:

Angus - any ship running dark is an enemy or a friendly - both trying to not be found - neutrals will be lit up like a christmas tree with a light shining on their flag so there is no question. There won't be friendly fisherman where your patrolling - so send em to Davy Jones Locker! :arrgh!:

Where did your found neutral ships ?
Every time I can see a ship, there is a blue or red symbol on my map.
It's different than in SH3 where you've got neutral ships depending the participation in the conflictof their belonging contries during the time.

Yike!!!! Yet another reason to love Trigger Maru: no silhouettes, no velocity vectors, no cute red and blue symbols. Just give me the basic information that there's a target out there and leave it to me to decide friend or foe, course, speed and identitiy. That's what the real sub skippers had to do.:arrgh!:

About the only neutral with ships present in the real Pacific War was the Soviet Union. Busy fighting Japan's ally Germany but not Japan at the moment. The US did accidently sink a few Russian ships and subs during the war. Given the wartime circumstances all was pretty much forgiven and swept under the rug.

it was a rainy and windy night my watch reports two ships, i go to deck and get a visual, small ships i was gonna get close, i surfaced and they didnt fire at me,
not wanting to waste my deck gun ammo ive decided to ram , (ramming small ships at flank speed is fun) , unluckly i noticed to late that they where flying an american flag i ordered back emergency , but i hit the ship at full speed any way
needless to say i felt very sorry

That was in my head. I am closed to finish a campaign with only texture mods.
After that, I will start another one with mods which set the game more realistic.

I have been playing at 100% for several months. I still find that I am to successfull even after adding Real Fleet boat, Run Silent Run Deep, Real Sinking mechinics. On My first patrol I sunk 85,000 tons, My second I sunk 30K and now I am on my 3rd patrol with already up to nearly 40K in just 5 ships, Of couse I have been really good at plotting where to run. I dont look at the map to see where the japanese ran there ships. But I do look at the in game map and ask myself where if I was routing ships would I send them, Then when i am headed to the next waypoint thats were I route myself. Since I added RSRD I havent really found many Convoys but I keep finding single ships trying to get on with there cargos. Also the majority of them have been Tankers, which by nature are larger targets, and sink with only one torpedo hit. I get lucky alot and hit them right were it makes them go up like a roman candle. I do run into alot of Fishing boats and I have decided just to leave them alone.
