First of all yes it's the Daily Mail but this is movie news not regular news. ;)

Beam me up: Heroes star Zachary Quinto stars as young Spock (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/showbiz/showbiznews.html?in_article_id=494398&in_page_id=1773)

Is this the Star Trek XI movie - or a different project?

On the story itself - I'm sceptical that it works.

I suspect that's either going to be great, or it will suck big time, there'll be no inbetween for something like that.

Aperently the movie will focus Kirk, Mcoy and Spock in the academy, so will be prequel to TOS, since Spock graduate in 2253 form the academy and was in the Enterprise in 2254, The Cage (first pilot).

Wynona Rider (that a friend of my says that is the hollywood satr with a name of an actress of porn) is set to play Spock mother...
hummmm...

Chock is right, with will be a great movie that will put Star Trek in motion again or it will "suck big time" (Chock, 2007).

For some reason, this prequel does not interest me at all. I enjoyed all of the other ten Star Trek movies (except for the incredibly boring 1st one - the Motion Picture) to various degrees, and watched all five series, but for some reason, replacing all the original main characters with recognizable big-name actors seems kind of cheezy and artificial - plus, I don't think the storyline sounds very interesting. I might be wrong, but that is just the way I feel about it right now - it just doesn't feel like this will be true to Star Trek. I don't know what else to say about it.:-?

Personally (although I may speak only for myself in this), I would have perferred a movie set between TOS and TNG, during the conflict with the Romulans. Or something that takes place during the Cardassian-Federation war, maybe involving the Cardassian occupation of Bajor (although I know no one else would be interested in this:cry:). Or even better yet, a movie set during the Dominion War, preferably including the USS Enterprise (the Sovereign class one - NCC 1701-E) and TNG crew (if they would agree to get together again, which they might not after the general recpetion of Nemesis).

We shall see if this brings Star Trek back to life or drive the wooden stake in to the heart and kill Star Trek for ever.

Instead of sticking with Kirk / Spock / McCoy, etc, I'd really love to see them do the years Spock was working with Capt Pike (if they wanted to do a series, that is). And yes, I agree, this movie will either be the best of the bunch, or it'll bury the franchise (for about 10 years, when it will, like a zombie, rise from the dead once again).

I hope I live long enough to see the day when there will be new "old" Star Trek episodes. All CGI, with the original crew in their prime, at such a high level of realism, no one can tell the difference between the CGI and real life. With better effects and props, great new stories, same old Kirk, Spock, and McCoy in the Enterprise.

Maybe 20 years from now?

One of our local stations here in Fort Lauderdale was playing these at 6 AM on Saturday mornings for a few months.

Just the episode of "The Doomsday Machine" was MORE than worth the re-done effects.

No, I mean new episodes, with complete CGI.

I did catch one of those upgraded shows a couple months ago. Man, I was really weirded out, here was this ol' Star Trek show on late night... and some of the ship and planet orbit effects were fantastic! I didn't know about the upgrades, I had no idea what was going on but I was telling my friends for weeks how GREAT my Samsung TV is! :88)

Neal, do you know about this: http://www.startreknewvoyages.com/ ? It's fan based but for me it's kind of good and cool. And at least one can see the "original crew" new adventures...

hi Rhodes, yeah, I came across that somewhere. It's nice to see the enthusiasm for the series live on in small projects like that. :yep:

Eheheheh, yes, but they became better because they began to get help from various people connected to the Star Trek show, so the Show began to have better cgi and plots. And possibly the best: the actors of the "Old crew" returning to their role.

Yeah, but Kirk still gets all the ladies, human or alien:rotfl:
I wonder if they will put his lady skills into the new movie, maybe see him go through his first 10 love interests in first 45 minutes.

I remember watching some prank show where the guy who plays Neelix was invited to a fake brainstorming session to figure out the theme of the next Star Trek show. The joke was the suggestion of High School Trek. Well, this is almost there.
