It sure would be interesting if SH4 had a detailed 2D, full-screen, cut-away view of the complete sub. Then use it to indicate:
1-damage
2- repair status
3- flooding
4- open/close compartments
5- torpedo loading status
6-food stores
7-fuel/batteries
8-amunition/torpedo inventory
9-crew placement (as in emergency evacuations)
10-what else??
You can’t add much more animation without slowing up the game … but simple 2D indicators would really add a lot by increasing the micro-management and thus the immersion.

you mean like what's in SH3

Thinking the same thing.

Yes, like SH3 but more detail and features. I like the math as much as the next guy, but face it, just staring at the map is boring. The more emersion, the more total interest! All simulators attempt to get you to the "feel" of the real thing within the limitations of a computer screen. I'm talking about increasing the "feeling" of managing your crew, stores, repairs etc. It was good in SH3 and could be better in SH4.

I agree. And not just a cut away with five or six compartments like SH3, but more like the original SH, which had more seperate compartements, with separate areas for the batteries and such (no longer have the game, so can't go on with each specific area SH3 lacked). I realize that in reality such a cut away picture showing yellow or red outlines of damaged systems did not exist in real life, and people who do not want such a feature will not feel the need to download this mod. I've always enjoyed going to a damage screen, seeing all the red damage, and thinking "well, hell, is that too much or can I pull it off?" The game is a simulation, but if it's not fun it's neither, really.
