Hello all, I am new here, although I have been playing SH3 for some time, and I would like someone to explain to me what the Trigger Maru mod does. Having read the TM thread I am still confused as to what it does, the FAQ just lists changes to specific files.
thanks

In simple terms, it creates a more realistic environment regarding ship and plane traffic. it also improves the eye candy and the AI in the game so that your enemy is more effectve against you. For a more detailed explanation, send a PM to Ducimus.

A shorter explanation, is that there is little TM does NOT touch in terms of gameplay or game mechanics. From more deadly aircraft, to a toned down deck gun, to a more aggressive AI, to a more realistic crew configuration, to improved dive times on submarines, to a more realistic depth charge setting, to a more intuitve control layout for ex Sh3 players, to adding back navigator functionality, to at lease one workaround on an annoying bug, to more realstic ocean traffic, etc etc etc. Its really more of a mod compliation from the Sh4 community, with quite a few changes of my own.

Thanks for the info, I was looking for a mod that improves the explosions, because after watching a tanker go up in the vanilla game I was slightly disappointed.
I have the Realistic sinking times mod installed, will there be any problems installing TM over the top of it?

You can install RSM (hopefully the classic version) on top of TM and there is no conflict. When JSGME asks questions, just say OK. I run ROW with it as well, but since ROW and TM (as usual) have been modified while I'm at sea, my data is old and of little use right now.
One brave soul is risking Ducimus' wrath :nope: by seeking to combine RSRD with TM without losing functions of either. That should be interesting. Silent Hunter 4 comes to your movie screen with Silent Hunter 4: the wrath of Ducimus!
However, if I had a choice of TM or Run Silent Run Deep, which presently is the case, RSRD loses. The gameplay improvements of TM are so indispensible that losing them would be unacceptable, even for ROW (which works great with TM) or RSRD (which fights with TM like a couple of stray tomcats).
TM plus RSM is a great combination you will definitely be happy with.

LOL, i really don't care what people do. I spent hours and hours combining the best of GWX and NYGM into a single mod (talk about dangerous waters! )Just don't ask me for help if you break something. :rotfl: Combining mods i liked but where incompatible with each other, is acutally how i got into modding to begin with, so i dont discourage it.
Yep, it can be fun, challenging and highly addicting. My last attempt was to combine TM, Better Scopes plus NSM. LOL, I think I finally got it to work but by then ROW was released and TM 1.6.4 and 1.6.5 were released so I just stopped and went to therapy instead.
I just cannot play SH4 without TM, although I have a seperate install where I am testing some changes to RFB. So there, if I could only find a way to make a living doing this. I might get some sleep!
Its all good just try them all, find what you like and play. Its what its all about, then when you get a bit bored do some modding. Plenty of resources here.

I have to say that that is also how I started modding. I am no good at skinning or stuff and just stick to text editing but I have made a couple of small mods for Medieval total war 2. partly because non of the mods out there really satisfied my needs so I hacked them apart with my trusty chainsaw and stuck the bits I wanted back together.
I wish there was a mod htat allowed me to play SH3 as SH4, because the graphics engine is just amazing, but the subs are a bit boring compared to the german boats and there shear range of upgrades, however I enjoy the easier hunting.
