so, i have been playing sh4 for a while now. mainly on quick missions. i am now in career mode.

i came back from my first patrol with great success. got my next set of orders, came a upon a destroyer. i only had 4 torpedoes left from my last patrol. how do you reload torpedoes? i assumed when you went back into port for refit, you would get restocked, i.e. fuel, weapons, etc.

any help for a newbie? ;)

Not a stupid question. I made this boo-boo as well. ;) you have to reload the tubes from the same panel in between missions (click the model sub on the office desk) where you enlist new crew and install new equipment. There's a graphic at the top of that panel for torpedos too. Renown-wise I think they're free.

Torpedo Management is on Page 81 of the SH4 manual and describes the process or push the "T" key...

When in port between patrols you have to go to the torpedo menu and load them manually. The reason for this is you can customize your loadout with different torpedo types as the war goes on. And that is NOT a stupid question ;)!!! I'll give you an example of stupid:

I came back in from patrol # gazillion. When I pushed back out to sea my torpedomen informed me we were out of torpedos (I had forgotten to load them). By the time they got around to relling me I was up in the Celebes Sea .

You as new to career mode can be excused for that oversight but I can't use any excuse except a Momentary Lapse of Reason.

Happy Hunting!

Exactly as per Torplexed's post, except that not all torpedoes are free. Mark 14s are always free; some of the other models will cost between 100 and 500 renown each.

Welcome aboard!

thanks guys.

btw, i like my newb title, "bilge rat". as a surface sailor veteran who worked in radio, we would send our "bad radiomen" down to the bilges to help out all the pit snipes.

thanks for the nice reception.

@kurt72,

Some people would rather have a tooth pulled without a pain killer shot than read the manual. Don't know if you read it or not kurt72 but try it anyway even if a lot of SH4 is not in there.
Now turn around for base and reload those fish and go sink the enemy. :arrgh!:

And welcome to Subsim.

Heh..heh. I forget some of those 'cutie' torpedoes don't come at a cute price. :arrgh!:

Yeah, and I should have also added that "what you get for what you spend" isn't always an agreeable match. :)

Never had luck with the cuties either. They seem to circle the destroyer I'm shooting at without ever hitting it. They have a crummy turn radius!

Well, it seems you've had your query answered, so this is just a post to say welcome to the forum.

What I want to know is how much renown do I need for a set of Mark 48 ADCAPS and a map of where all the Jap flat tops are parked up for the night:rotfl:

:D Chock

The cuties always circle me without hitting, too.

Welcome to subsim!

(And I wish it would show who rates the threads, because some moron has rated this perfectly legit question one star)

U.S.S. Tang could only wish for that!

Throw the manual out. I believe the manual helps you run a Star Trek game or something. Come to Subsim for answers.

Welcome aboard!

I know a guy who, while in San Francisco testing this game with the Devs, lined up a perfect shot and then fired training torpedoes at the enemy.

No names though.......Boss :D
