Hi,

On my last mission i torped 2 japanese medium freighters.
Both ships were hit by 2 torpedo's (contact detonation).
Strange, but there were no holes visible in the hull where the torps hit.
I used to see these on other ships at earlier missions.
I run 1.3 patch, TW and ROW.

Second strange thing i noticed: i left from Midway and choose the option to start off the coast instead of docked at harbor.
But on the map i was 400 kilometers from midway when the mission started.
When i left from Manila before it was just a couple of kilometers.
Is this normal, i mean 400 km's is really far from base to be "docked" isn't it?

Torp damage is another strange glitch. Sometimes I see it and sometimes I do not. -shrug-


I think TM starts you at Midway because of fuel issues, etc. When in Manila you are pretty much where the action is so fuel is not a big issue.

Actually you start out of Midway because of the date line bug.

Its been some time since I saw the thread (in mod section) - but one of our fellows on here was reworking the zone files to "fix" this - among some other proplems. The thread itself was devoted to dealing with sinking mechanics I believe - so it was likely on of the mods related to ship damage. However, the point was that shells and torps do a "radius" of damage - and if the damage epicenter is at a spot where there is no specific "zone" listed for the specific ship - no damage will appear. In simpler terms - if you hit a spot that isn't listed as a "room" inside the ship - you wont get to see a gaping hole. This is why some shots leave holes and some dont. At least, that is my recollection of the thread.

One limitation that I have noted with the game as is - if you use shells that penetrate the hull, you can get a few small holes - but only one little "hole" per section or "zone". The problem is that you can hole a compartment multiple times and while the damage accumulates - you dont SEE it. I don't know if thats an engine limitation or what. Hope this helps answer the question of why though...
