12th of april 1940
Das Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine gibt bekannt:

Today in the early morning hours at 3:00 local time the world saw another victory of the Kriegsmarine.
100miles NW of Trondheim, U-49 scored repeated torepdo hits on HMS Warspite. At least one hit must have damaged the ammunition stores and exploded the british battleship immediately.

The fireball was observed by german infantry forces from the coast of norway.

U-49 evade multiple counterattacks by british destroyer groups and reported in this evening undamaged and the whole crew healthy and of good morale.

As british forces still keep up their senseless fight and have not yet surrendered, U-49 will continue it's war patrol to defend our supply lines into Narvik.

hello U-49

i love the pictures, and the layout you have, dials etc.

tell me, is this part of sh3, and how do i get them.

also, sh3 weather. what changes does this bring - i have sh3+gwx, sh3 commander, is it compatible with what i have.

i'd like to add a different weather mod, what do you suggest ?

what about the red water, how do you that ? :hmm:

once again

very excellent indeed

Ahoi flag4,

some quick answers:
the GUI is part of OLC's GUI. It was intended for a better manual targeting (lot's of fun ) Just search for OLC (onelifecrisis is is nick) here on subsim, or http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=124639
The water effects are part of the mod "SH4effects for SH3". I still use an older version, and need to update. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=124207
SH3weather modifies the variables for the in-game weather engine. It puts the static weather model into a more dynamic one and preselects better values for the current month of your patrol. (Again search for it here on subsim, I can't remember right now, where I found it)
I havn't heard yet about another working weather mod.

Nice job, I can't help to notice the location of the secondary explosion; straight under the smokestack! I find a shot placed here does the charm on these capital ships everytime!

wait a second...that couldn't be the Warspite...

She was a Queen Elizabeth-class battleship... the ship shown is a Nelson-Class

Still!

You are correct, I later read more about that ship and learned that warspite was from a different class.

Let's call it propaganda :rotfl:
But nevertheless, which Nelson-Class Battleship took part in the norway campaign?
My position was 100 miles NE of Trondheim.

Nice story and pictures U49

In Operation Weserubung,
A group of 9 Destroyers lead the attack on Narvik , landing troops, while Scharnhost & Gneisenau covers them from possible Royal Navy attacks. Renown and her taskforce come across the german Cruisers 50nm outside Narvik . They exchanged fire and the german cruisers ran away. But succeeded to draw off the British force..

In a gwx career, I've seen the 2 German taskforces sail out of Wilhemshaven, they race up the Norwigian coast, as the destroyer group attacks Narvik, the cruisers fall back. (After that I lost contact, perhaps the Renown - Scharnhost encounter is scripted)

Also the taskforce to invade Trondheim, Admiral Hipper and 4 destroyers, sails out of Wilhemshaven a few hours after the first taskforce. I intercepted this group, right before heading into Throndheim, just like in real history, they run into the stray british destroyer Glowworm, who is searching a man that fell overboard.

After that the Norwigian coast is very active until early June, lots of historical encounters and support convoys, air attacks. Stay around enjoy the action

A few hours later, U-49 had an encounter with an aircraft carrier group:

U-49 didn't care about the rest of that task force :arrgh!:
A spread of 3 torpedos to make it a point, 1 dud :damn:

Guess what happend 5 seconds later:

++++ WAR NEWS: HMS Impecable sunk by german submarine ++++
(That's what sh3commander told me later)

At april 13th Kriegsmarine finally fullfills it's primary mission to interdict the coastal approches for RN landing operations:
http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/9785/sh3img1011200720254486op6.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
BDU hat order U-49 on a perfect intercept position to attack and sink the landing force and supply convoy.
U-49 was able to sink 1 of 3 transports

 and sometimes the Kaleun is not focused enough on his primary mission (kill more transports) but is only keen on his own renown (totally selfish :nope: )

This will leave a bad mark in the personal file of U-49. Strategically it would have given more benefit to spend the last 4 torpedos on the remaining transport ships. This would have eliminated a whole landing operation in at least regimental order. Instead the captain chose to attack and sink a Fiji class cruiser. (HMS Newfoundland, identified by SH3commander again)

All torpedos shot, but still with 70% fuel, U-49 was ordered to Stavanger

to resupply Wehrmacht forces in that area.

U-49 returned to Wilhelmshaven at april, 21st with after a successful patrol of 4 ships sunk with a total of 77977 BRT sunk.

:()1:

U-49 has to report 4 duds of a load of 14 torpedos.
The commander of U-49 has formally demanded a war tribunal to execute the responsible saboteurs.

Personally I'd blame Bernard for this.

Bernard IS a dud torpedo!!

Great work Kaleun! I'm not in the Norway ops yet, and since I'm down in Wilhelmshaven, I'll probably be Atlantic bound when the Op orders come through.

Congratulations U-49 for your impressive patrol. nice photos

My crew salutes you from some point in the mediterranean waters. only 40.000 tons of shipping ,but two light cruisers, one destroyer, one troop ship, and one landing ship loaded with vehicles, are now in the botton of the ocean.

The BDU has congratulated personally. As soon as U-49 had docked in Wilhelmshaven, the crew was ordered to the pier and to stand to attention.

Konteradmiral Dönitz received the short report of the patrol's outcome and promoted the captain of U-49 from Oberleutnant z.See to Kapitänleutnant.

Military Police of Wilhelmshaven had to intervene later in the night as a group of U-49 crewmembers under the lead of Oberbootsmann Müller tried to demonstrate to other sailors how torpedos could hit a ship, by pushing a bar piano into the harbour basin and throwing sticks and an oar at it
