Hi. I just installed TM1.6 and it looks great and is very interessting things with it.
One of the things is, when i choose this the mission is testing the sub and drilling the crew. I dont quite see the point in this unless i can bring the crew with me on a war career.
It's a training mission so that you'll know how to select and train your crew in a career. ... I think.

It is an (excellent) aftermarket mod produced by the legendary Ducimus. As such it is not tied into the game itself.

New construction is acutally the start of a career game., so You can and do bring your crew with you. If you couldn't, i wouldn't have bothered with it. The only thing that bugs me is you have to manually request a transfer to pearl. My orginal plan was to have you sail there yourself, with the acutal base/flotilla transfer occuring at sea while you were enroute to pearl. As an aside my underlaying motive behind new contruction, was to create a legitimate excuse to start a career game with a gato, or balao, earlier then you normally could.

Oh, dont get me wrong. Its great huge work with the mod, it was more of an issue rather than a complain.
Ok, so this is my chance to get experience to me and the crew before i go to war?

your crew will gain some experience, yes. Althoguh granted it wont be much. The renown awarded for sea trials isnt that much - this is by design. Sea trials shoudlnt reward anywhere near as much as an actutal patrol. The game does, coincidently count each sea trial as a patrol, hence some experience gain to the crew.

Thanx for the wonderful mod. I enjoyed it very much. It really gets you into the game by starting out fresh with a brand new boat (I got the USS GATO). Great training for the captain and the crew, and quite realistic RL-wise.
I just finished reading 'Silent Running' by James F. Calvert. You must have picked up alot of hints for writing this mod from his book. Excellent job! Inclusion of those horrible Hor-Mann engines would have been a nice touch, but probably impossible to duplicate the problems they had with them. The USS Jack had to go clear back to Mare Island for a complete engine replacement after their 3rd patrol. They barely made it on the one engine that was still working.
It would have been nice to somehow work this mod into the game, and use it as a kind of reward for all us early S-Boat skippers for surviving three or more patrols in our antiques.
