Archey is now my passion:
Gravity has been defied, if not, it is no longer a threat in your life.

They're fake...
The bows, that is. I dislike greatly archery today. It's lost the skill it once had, with counterbalances and sights... I say bring it back a few notches.I dont mean to detract from anyone or the sport as a whole, but look at that bow, its got a bloody round thingamajig at the top, i cant for the life of me remember the name. Its too mechanical.
Just don't cheat on her.:rotfl:

I agree. I've tried it both with a modern bow and a classic one. The modern one does everything for you.

Gentlemen, let us try to remember that this is not the website of a smut magazine. The second picture has been removed. It is far to close to the line for my liking.

Ha, I've learned something today, that my vocabulary was wrong in the past. If these kinds of robot bows are called compound bows (d@rk) in English, I was wrong when calling my Korean bow a compound bow. It can be deconstructed into five parts, this is the characteristic I thought I would correctly describe when saying it is a compound bow. But it nevertheless is without all those bells and whistles, and does not have any metal. Put together it looks like a normal bow without anything special. But it is... it has RANGE...:D I just never was strong enough in arm's muscles to stretch it to the maximum needed to acchieve that maximum range, and if I would have hit anything at that max range also is something different - make the goal of man's size and keep it clearly below 100m, please. :)

Yep, Plain looking bows (old style) are called recurve, modern styles with pulleys are called compound. A bow you can dismantle for storage or transport is called a "takedown" and are available in both styles.
Had a recurve many years ago, and sold it to a "mate" when I was desperate for some cash.
I miss it dearly, although there are some snazzy looking bows getting about on E-Bay at the moment.:hmm:

Well actually, you're both right there.
Originally bows were straight. I think it was the Hyksosians who are credited with the earliest recurve bow, which was bent forwards at the tips, making it look like a stylised buffalo horns... can find a pic if that makes no sense?
Next came the compound bow, i believe this is credited in the 'west' to the Assyrians, and also that there are chinese examples. the compound bow was made of thin layers of wood and bone, spliced together into a bow much tougher and which could fire an arrow a huge distance.
So Sky calling his bow a compound I would assume to be right, guessing it is of the ancient compound variety, and then darkside is right in that the modern bow is also considered compound.

Cool. I thought that would just be called laminated. But it makes sense.
Archery's one of those things I've always wanted to try - one day I'll get round to it, and no doubt I'll be rubbish.

It is a modern recreation of a Korean war bow design, which came in two styles, I was told, one of which is small in size and reminds of the small bows the Mongoles were using from their horses. But the tips are not bend forward so much, but are pretty straight. The classical materials of horn and wood had been replaced with layers of wood and fibre, and fibreglass or carbon stuff around the centre grip area, the latter I can't tell since I never stripped of the leather covering the centre part. Only 30 or 40 of these bows were created in handwork, and due to their long range, precision and ability to be taken apart, they were extremely expensive, and almost never mentioned. I would be surprised to hear that one of them is on sale anywhere- but if they would, you better prepare to separate with your car to keep up with the price it would cost you. I'm not a weak man, but also no bizeps and deltas of basketball sizes, so pretty much normal, I think - and still I could pull the bow only halfways if I wanted to shoot with precision. for a bow of that strength it looks ridiculously fragile.
Nice part is: since it has no metal, metal detectors don't gon on, and the five individual pieces almost look like normal straight planks (?) of wood or something. I brought it three times through controls, (french harbour police, Egypt, Iran - the others never cared to find it), and nobody ever became aware it was a weapon. :sunny: Having put a small and fitting glass flask into the grip and telling them it was a gimmick meant for a gift, and the straigth planks being for a note holder I am delivering as a gift for a musician, satisfied them, always. Maybe a bit daring, wouldn'T do it again, but hey, that was ten and fifteen years ago, and I was a young fool turning into a slightly older fool. And if people are stupid and you do not harm them, why not making advantage of the opportunity?:smug:
strange what things I spend my earlier money on, when currently needing to keep my small income together so tightly. But I am lucky to know that it will not stay that way forever. That safety is more than most people have today. And it cannot hurt to know that a medal has two sides. Helps to stay with your feet on the ground.

Speaking of Bows, Has anybody seen / tried the POE-LANG units available?
Some nice looking units, but looks aint worth a pinch of $h*t if it can't shoot straight.

That is some pretty poor 'netiquite', as it were.
I hate the way two words are transformed into one.It is a very sloppy and lazy use of the language. It should be Net etiquette.I saw anonther one today, cremains, which I assume is cremated remains.
As to my intention ,I was merely offering a site that is not so straight-laced to discuss such matters as young women with bows.

This isn't a T and A site, guys. The first pic is within reason. The second was highly suspect. And, for the record, this thread was not started for the purpose of discussing archery.

It seems I said something wrong, then.
Anyhow, I think the poster of those pic(s) knew what she was into, at least she should have known. If "she" really is a "she" and not a "he". So she must not be protected from the reactions by some. And if the posted content itself is the problem due to be considered inapproriate for this site (I agree on that), and not the poster needing to be proetced from inappropriate reactions, maybe the now remaining pic also should have been deleted or the thread closed from the beginning?

I let it run because your discussion was about archery. It seemed, to me, rude to cut you off in the middle of it. With the offending image gone, there was no problem.

Don't go crazy. It was only to make you chuckle or smile. You folks are WAY too serious and cannot bend back and relax.
It was a JOKE, and nothing more than that. Jesus. Move on to something else. Makes me NOT wat to come here.

Who's going crazy? I just deleted an image.I NEVER, [never ever] complained. And I RESPECT your view and decision to do so to remove image#2. YOU MODEATORS are the ones going off on some rant or power trip.
My point is you found image#2 crossing the line so WHY are YOU making such a big deal out of it? I left it alone saying that goes to far and agreed with you.
I respected your decision and LEFT IT ALONE. I wanted to have people here have a laugh. You have taken it to some level of who is in charge.
Have FUN on your power trip.
