If its not in the expansion, i say we add it in,- with a little artistic license!

Something about sinking some uboats in the bay of biscay puts a s**t eating grin on my face ! :arrgh!:

"USS Dorado (SS-248) disappeared with all hands during a transit between New London and Panama, and her fate remains unknown to this day. There is some evidence that she was either depth-charged by one of our own aircraft or torpedoed by a German U-boat that had been operating in the same vicinity near Cuba".

i did some patrols in the caribbean sea with my IX-B :arrgh!: be careful , these waters are infected with pirates .

It sure does. But I still feel like its a short for "Barbara", hehe. "Barbed Wire" would have been better.:rotfl:

Yeah, but the crew called themselves "Barbarians" and by the look of that battle flag they lived up to it

In this day and age I'd rather serve on a USS Barb than a USS Hoe. :arrgh!:

Guys on the USS Flasher probably had a self-image problem too.

Or USS Kraken. How would you like to be named after a roller coaster?

What a name for a sub. To be named after the mythical creature that was controled by Davy Jones Himself. A monster of the deep that would come up and destroy a ship without warning. A fitting name for a Sub.

You can't fool me; that grin is always there. It happens when your brains leak out from too much hard work and not enough play time.:rotfl:

Comment two: I know what boat I want - USS Sea Dog (SS-401)! What a name:rock:

Actually, any of the "Seas" will do:
SS 399 USS Sea Cat
SS 400 USS Sea Devil
SS 401 USS Sea Dog
SS 402 USS Sea Fox
SS 405 USS Sea Owl
SS 406 USS Sea Poacher
SS 407 USS Sea Robin
SS 304 USS Seahorse
SS 315 USS Sealion

Are you aware of the British 'Insect' class gunboats? They had one called HMS Cockchafer.

I wouldn't mind a trip to the Atlantic for a shot or two at a good German capital boat ... er ... ship.

Just FYI, the main reason i created this thread, was to plant the seed of thought in other SH4 modders. If you think its a cool idea and want to create this for your mod, GO FOR IT! It doesnt have to be me that does it.

That said, i am going to work on this.. probably after the add on is released, but ill be doing it in my own way.

Yeah...as you can see by the record they didn't find much to sink. Given the success US subs had in the Pacific sinking I-Boats I'm kinda surprised no U-Boats were ever caught by Gatos in the Atlantic. But then this was early on when US torpedoes were at their worst.

Id hazzard a guess that they were mismanaged from higher up

Heres a quote from one of the links in the orginal post:

Each night we would receive orders to proceed to a point where German "milch cow" submarines were expected to refuel an attack boat. No visual or radar contacts were made. It also appeared we were going between these points out of sync. If we had been permitted to stay put one night we might have made contact.

Yes, i know the location isnt 100% correct. I used Firth of Clyde since it was the closest harbor to rosneath that currently exists in the game.

Here's another idea:
Quite a few S boats were doin patrols on the east coast, carribean and the Panama Canal. Would be cool if that could be implemented although they achieved even less then SUBRON 50.

Man, talk about something different...definitely got my attention.

A Milch Cow or Type IX in the ol' periscope crosshairs would be very, very sweet...or shooting it out with some E-Boats...

Would be very interesting to catch a milch cow refitting a u-boat at sea. Fire forward tubes, full spread.:hmm:

Would be cool to have a model of the Type 14 milch cow in either game. I commanded one in a modded scenario in SH2. The challenge was staying alive for more than a few days in one of those big sluggish tubs. :arrgh!: They could dive deep tho.
