I was about to leave my patrol grid after a very silent 24 hours and I get a welcome message from BDU...a convoy that I can reach!

I usually don't go for convoys because I often get messed up after sinking one ship and have to give up the chase...but the escorts were no problem this time.

I just killed them all.

Here is my result

I cannot believe that they left the fate of that fat convoy to the protection of flower class escorts...granted they had one black swan but I eat those for breakfast.

the nelson will go down in my book as my best kill.

granted...I did not get away without heavy damage...I had a permanent damage control party on standby at all times and that seemed to help.

as for being a one man wolf pack...that is a great compliment...thank you so much.

How do you kill escorts with such impunity?
Outstanding patrol!
Prost! Kudos, Herr Kaleun!

I just think of it as a plan B when I attack a convoy...before this I only had one good convoy attack and that was when I took out a couple of corvettes with my deck gun at long range.

This was a similer case, I approached the convoy and saw a flower in my path and decided that the risk to reward was good enough for a surface deck gun attack at high speed, I then took out another and another as they appeared.

The black swan was doing what I notice they always do, it stuck pretty close to the convoy and was running in a nice straight coarse, I submerged and launched one eel to take it out (or at least the engines)...it worked and sunk it right away.

The nelson was the sleeping dragon that I was scared of...I knew that I could not use the gun on other merchants till that ship went down, it took five eels (probably would have taken four but I needed it to sink fast)...I loudly cheered as the ship went down with thundering explosions.

After that I was a wolf among sheep and just took out ships as they came in deck gun range, I used my last eels on a couple of whaling factory ships and used the gun to mop up what I could till I was out of ammunition.

After I finished I made my way back to port with many flags hanging on my conning tower and my men enjoyed the celebrity of destroying one of britains mighty battleships, her escorts and many of her merchant buddies.

I figure that I am doing the Kriegsmarine a service if I deny the escorts the opportunity to attack another U-boat in different waters.

I would not have been able to do this risky and rewarding enterprise without the tips and advice that I have read on these forums...you guys deserve to sit at the same table in the bar and share the victory like you were manning the Zantrale yourselves.

It is moments like this that make me really glad that I bought this game...all the failures and aborted attempts seem far away when those eels hit a battleships hull.

If you spot a convoy with only eight or so ships left and no escorts...feel free to finish em off!

good hunting my friends!

Great result in sinking that convoy:up: Although just you wait till you get to 1943 onwards - convoys are a lot harder to sink, you rarely get a chance to even get close to convoys:nope: .

I noticed that Black swans tend to always enter my torpedo path when I am going on a attack run...they just line up perfect for a great shot.

when they get real close I worry, they will badger till they know you are dead.

I just hit escorts like I would a merchant...tonnage is tonnage in my book, even better if it can shoot back.
