View Full Version : Are the pay for campaigns for IL-2 worth it?

Are they worth getting? I am always in two minds as to whether it is right to pay for such things when they are extended campaigns made in the in game editor. I know a lot of hard work has been put into them, but to then sell them seems a little off.
Some look interesting though.
Anyone else bought them?

No I haven't. Didn't know there were any out there.
So far there's been enough in game to keep me happy so far.
I'm looking forward to trying my hand at online flying.
What kinda money are they asking ?

I would not waste a penny on those payware campaigns for IL2.
go for the ones that are free to download
like this one I found via the B_F forum :

just look at the amount of details, there is a lot of work in this one!
(warning : this is a FPS hitter!)
Never bought any payware campaigns for IL2. I've bought, IL2, Pacific Fighters, and IL2 1946, and that's it, not sure I'd pay for something done purely with the mission editor, I mean, why not just duplicate it yourself for free?
I've paid for YAP missions for WOV, because they have a lot of custom models, voices, terrain and weapons, so that is worth it in my opinion.
Similarly, I bought the ARMA Queen's Gambit add-on because you get a DC-3 in it, and some other stuff, which could not be done with simply ARMA's (very cool) mission creator utility. But if it was only missions I could have created myself, there's no way I'd have got it.
:D Chock

@Firewall:
apart from the campaign I just linked, I dont really download that much for my IL2 1946 apart from Skins/pilot skins.
as mostly I play online. the only time I launch a campaign is a on a boring saturday afternoon.
but just in case you missed this :

''flightsim hangar'' a thread with links to good IL2 & other download websites.
Flying legends is the place to get skins from (you'll have to register in order to see the download center)

Mission 4 Today is a good site.
there are lots of missions there and skins.
The payware things are combat simulations and X1 so that is what puts me off.

THX GUYS
Just downloaded a few and going to give them a try.:D
Yea, trust me, there is more than enough top-quality freeware - some of it extremely creative - to bother with payware. IL-2 is not nearly as moddable as FS, so really what you get with payware is just missions + skins, nothing much else goes into it.
I've played a half-dozen user-made campaigns, which were all great, and I could do a dozen more - soon as I get back to IL-2, of course.
