I've noticed lately that a pillar of smoke is following me. What is the cause of this? and can I fix it? Here's a screenshot:

Also, I just shot 4 or 5 torps into a carrier and it's screws have stopped but it still seems to be moving at 2-3 knots. I'm trailing it submerged because of a couple heavy cruisers in the area. But is there any hope on sinking it with gunfire with the amount of damage it has (I actually shot the torps last night, so when I loaded all the visible damage was gone)?

The pillar of smoke may be a sign. Follow it and it will lead you out of the wilderness :hmm:.

The damaged carrier is a drag. I've had that kind of thing happen to me a couple times. I've never tried to gun it under because--well (here goes)--historically :nope: , it would have me seriously outgunned and would chew me up. That's not to say you shouldn't though!!! Waiting for the cruisers to leave 1st would be prudent IMHO.

Good Luck!

Ya, the cruisers just left and I'm firing at it, the machine guns are a bit of a nuisance, but if that's the price to sink a carrier...

Shyzar, do you have any torp's left? If so then sink those damn cruisers! Or are they destroyers that are hanging around? If it is just 2 cruisers then sink em. You can even hide under the carrier too. Maybe they will ram the carrier trying to get at you hence causing it to sink and the cruiser to get damaged. If they are tin cans I would do the same thing. Let them run into the carrrier trying to find you. SINK EM ALL!!!:arrgh!:

Damn, they left.....nevermind. Just hit the carrier below the waterline where she is going low in the water. Good luck

Just stay out of range - you've got a 4" cannon which at 20 degrees elevation had a range of over 15,000yds (about 2 degrees elevation was over 4000yds). Obviously that's a useless max. range for a submarine, but if all they've got is machine guns - just sit back 1500-2000yds or so and pump shells into it. No need to get hit by any stinkin' machine gun fire

Running an earlier version of NSM? The smoke was an issue in earlier versions. I don't know if it is now (doubt it).

I have decided that I cannot sink the carrier and have left the scene. After many shells, nothing happened and I have no torps so...

I have NSM 3.3 Light, Just downloaded it.

I just noticed that the smoke is no longer pursueing me. No changes to mods or files. It stopped after I loaded the game once and it froze in the command room even though I was supposedly getting 200 FPS. But, at least it stopped, and thats all that matters.

I've seen the same thing by the way. I think I had TM 1.6.4 and the previous ROW version.

It went away after my patrol and hasn't come back since.

Ducimus:
I'm running TMaru 1.6 w/patch 1.6.3 . I don't know what NSM is, but nothing with these initials shows up on my mod list. I've had smoke on the water for quite some time. It only shows up in the exterior camera view, not in the periscope or TBC view.

There is really nothing there except the smoke. It looks like it is a substitute for the old marker.

I too am followed by a reddish fire and a trail of smoke after refitting from Balikpapan. 1.3 patch, latest RSRD mod. And no, this is no joke.

Isn't that the "Smoke" from the Lost TV series?
