Why should an old split freighter need 3 torpedos in the stern and 2 torpedos in the beam to sink her? Mission is go to South China Sea and patrol, etc.:cry: Thanks Steamin Demon, Replayed with 14 Ft depth settings and victims went under much quicker.

I ran into that one. It had a cargo of life-preservers and inflated beachballs.

I think that sometimes torps that the crew tell you are hits are actually prematures that go off right next to the target. That would also be historically accurate.

pah, came accross a large modern composite last night, 5 torpedo's and 22 4" rounds to put her under. bugger just would not go down (i'll teach im)

i'm using NSM3.3 tho, i think perhaps the ship was loaded with timber hehe.

All ships have their 'sweet spots' Medium Old Splits I believe is just barely fore of her stacks. One or two deep should do it. But its like tryin to hit a bulls eye from 10 yards.

Are you running any mods? If not ensure you set your depth to around 14 feet. try that and let me know how it works out for you.

In the case of the japanese, the "dolls" were actual women (slaves), and they were probably treading water.

As an aside I did see something cool during this misadventure. As someone mentioned, sometime the torpedoes are defective. I actually saw a torpedo bounce off the stern of the "old split freighter" without exploding. What a cool thing to program into a game!:o

In RL ships that carried very boyant cargo such as timber, empty berrels.....err....ping pong balls...:roll:....etc... where hard to sink and could often soak up a lot of hull damage (no pun intended there either!:lol: ).

Conversly ships carrying very heavy cargo such as metal would often go down in minutes, even less!
