The anti-aircraft gun in this game is the pits you can see the shells hitting the zeros but does no damage I even pelted them with high explosive shells and got the same result is there a fix for this.

Strange, Mine are overpowered.

Are you actually hitting the planes? You have to lead them a fair amount unless they're right on top of you.

Mine works very good. However I don't use it a lot. Good fishing.:arrgh!:

MookieMookie I am aware of leading moving aircraft as I use several flight sims problem is I am only able to inflict damage and down the large planes the small fighters are uneffected shell type used seems to make no difference at all.

Mine works fine, my gun crew rocks, and now that I have twin mounts I join them in the fun and after that we circle the pilot wondering why we cant just pick him up:smug: .

Have you tried letting a skilled crew operate the gun for you ?
Mine are crack shots and destroy nearly all aircraft. Problem is that then they crash into the boat.
Ive gotten into the habit of diving whenever a plane is spotted anyhow.

I also let my gun crew have all the fun and they have no problem shooting down planes, regardless of size.
Same here. My AA gun crew shoot down fighters like flies. I only use 90+ rated gunners.

New gunners is a good idea I have not thought of and will have to try thanks, with out realizing it I probably did send a couple of jugheads up there , maybe they are related to the captin who sent them up there lol.
The shooting is a bit overpowered, never knew that subs would stand toe to toe with aircraft and mostly win :) I just set it to autodive and dive on radar contacts and fast forward 15 mins then come up. Its OK to have a shootout for some fun but after the 5th time and youve got to make thousands of miles its really a drag getting involved with planes and to be quite honest a direct bomb hit should be insta death, unrepairable at the very least. So unless you are seriously bored outside of your campaign game just leave them as distant contacts and hide like you should.

My crews win nine out of ten fights; after I had twin 40mm mounts put in & my crew trained up. I usually let them take on single contacts as long as my boat is close enough to a refit station. That way if I do take a hit from one of the small charges the planes are carrying I can repair in port.
On a side note, I noticed some planes carry larger ordnance than others. I had a sea-plane drop several small charges on me in two seperate drops before my crew got him....it looked like ten or more per drop; while a zeke dropped two larger ones twice in his passes. If I recall correctly the A6M could only carry one 200kg bomb & that would mean no extra fuel. Are the aircraft ordnance load-outs modelled correctly? Does anyone know if they are & what A/C carries what load-out?

actually does anyone know a mod to reduce the flak guns power? i mean i'm all for shooting down those pesky planes but i don't see how i can make a flying boat explode with 20mm rounds unless i get some lucky shots. planes take a lot of damage.
also, how do you train your chaps? i fear i'm neglecting my crew.

I fired up IL-2 last night, and created a mission flying a Betty against a surfaced Gato-class sub. The idea was that I'd blast the sub (I was going to try skip-bombing) and post screenshots on the "Realistic Photo" thread, all in fun. Turns out the Gato AA shredded me, just call it the "Floating AA Hedgehog." (Of course, those of us who play IL-2 know that AI gunners there--on ships or planes or ground--are all Hollywood Ace Heroes.)

Yea I always love getting dotted (shot to the forehead and black screen) from 300 yards out by a flippin stuka. Hell thats not even in my convergance. It leaves me sitting there gripping the joystick with a blank stare of disbelief.
Anyhow cool idea about the 'mission' Ill have to try that tonight

1) Purchase the best crew you can afford at base using your Renoun.
2) The crew train themselves over time if you keep them alive long enough. When you see little yellow diamonds on their picture it's a hint that particular crew upgraded some aspect of their character. It takes a lot of time for this to happen.

Kick ass baby if there is a plane in the air near me I shall shoot it down. :D

You really don't have to get lucky to make one of the Japanese planes explode. If you read most of the accounts from the war the American pilots always comment on how the best way to take out most of the Japanese planes was to hit the wings. A lot of gas plus the lack of self sealing gas tanks equaled very nice explosions. So whether the devs gave the guns too much power or whether they modeled it correctly is 50/50.
