When your lookouts have spotted a ship only to find out it's too late because you wont be able to get a good shot at it because you wont be able to catch it. I just spotted my first passenger liner but it is going 21 knots and my boat can do only 18. :x

That hurts.
If it's unescorted and unarmed (and the weather is good) try having the gun crew pump some shells into to it to slow it down.

how is the sea state?
you might be able to shell it with the deck gun and cause it to start zig zagging.
if it zig zags it eats up less running distance and slows down in the turns... also if you can cause enough damage with the deck gun it might slow down.

Nothing wrong with a second opinion that reinforces the first. :arrgh!:

Thanks for your advice gentlemen, but unfortunately the weather is not good and even if it was, my deck gun is out of ammo already. I used it up on a convoy. There's just no way I'll be able to get her. She's completely alone and unarmed.

Shame. Sounds like the big one that got away. :-? Unfortunately, without real wolfpacks simulated in this game you can't at least get the satisfaction of sending other U-boats to try for her by sending out a contact report. Partial credit is better than none. :know:

Well I'm no longer disapointed as my hydrophone guy just picked up two large tankers traveling together completely unprotected. Just the turn of luck I was hoping for! AHEAD FLANK MEN! :arrgh!:

What's your location? Send a contact report, who knows, the Luftwaffe may show up. Yeah, right...:shifty:
At least throw some verbal abuse at it, maybe she'll get upset and make a mistake:arrgh!:

Too bad about your deck guns, i have found that those passenger liner captains spook pretty easily. Just firing a couple volleys across her bow generally slow them to 9 knots and they start zig-zagging.
Those tankers are prolly irish lmao

i have encoutered this problem a couple of times... its bitterly dissapointing but in hind sight - im sure this is the exact thing a lot of sub skippers had to put up with in RL

Bet you a flagon of ale they're Irish.
As for the liners, I came across three one time doing the same thing - running dark and positively steaming along at 21 knots, with a fairly light four destroyer escort. If you play GWX, and you've nothing to do at 4am on Dec. 13th 1939, I suggest you have a picnic precisely 5.8km north of the southmost intersect of AM51/52. Not sure if this little basket of goodies is repeatable, but its worth a look.

Nope they were Canadian. The tankers that is. Both are now enjoying the sights and sounds of 1000m+ depths :arrgh!:

Not much chance of that I'm afraid :nope:
There were even rumours during the war that the Irish on their west coast were aiding U-boats :hmm:
Personally speaking, I don't know if that was in fact the case, but I'd like to see the proof if it was. :arrgh!:
