I played SH3 Grey Wolves a lot during 2006 and was hooked but have not played for 10 months or so. Tried to play with fairly serious realism levels but never became an expert.
I am about to jump back in by buying SH4 and would welcome advice on a basic set of necessary or useful mods from the bewildering array appearing in this forum. I understand that patches up to 1.3 have been released and 1.4 is coming soon. I guess I should start by downloading JSGME? Is there any specific order in which patches, mods, JSGME should be installed?
Really looking forward to getting back into SH and would be grateful for any advice.
Cheers
KC

I would play some stock first to get a feel for the game as is.

The big mods are:

Trigger Maru - reduces traffic to more realistic levels, includes a lot of graphical upgrades, makes enemy AI more difficult.

Reflections on the Water - Makes amazing upgrades to environmental detail, especially the water.

Natural Sinking Mechanics - Reworks the enemy ship damage model to make them sink in a much more realistic fashion, by flooding only.

Each of these will have to be updated post patch 1.4. Install order is still a little bit of a mystery to me, I installed Trigger Maru first, then ROW, and it seems to be working fine.

Also, make sure if you are running Vista you run JGSME elevated (i.e. right-click and select "Run as Administrator") or you may encounter problems with silent file redirection.

Run Silent Run Deep The Campaign, is another mod you should try out as well.

I'm still playing the game stock since the day it came out. I've been patient during the patch cycle and when it's clear it's over, I'll jump aggressively into the mods and probably only the campaign mods since that is where the game needs the most help, but is quite playable out of the box.
