What a fireball! Take a look

I've never seen this before. I encountered a convoy. Launched some torps. One of them was at a Whale Factory Ship. I hit it between the first mast and the first superstructre. At first it seemed like a regular hit. A couple minutes later I was checking around with my external camera and saw what happened to that ship:

I also hit another whale factory in the same convoy. It went up in flames just like the first one but I also noticed this dark blue stuff all around it (no not the water). Could it be the whale oil?

that simulates an oil slick of some kind.

i think if the ship is loaded with fuel or oil you will get that floating slick... or if you hit a warship's fuel/oil tanks

Well I got both whale factory ships and a large cargo from that convoy. I also hit a large tanker just before the first superstructure. It apparently sank but I did not get the credit even though I was well within hydrophone range. Somehow though the destroyer found me. I managed to avoid him most of the time but he did score a critical hit to my bow, taking out all 4 of my forward tubes in the process. Luckily the tubes were closed but I now have 3 torpedoes that I can't use. I was going to circle around and chase down the convoy but now instead I'm heading for home port in Kiel.

Whaler ships are nice. They give you good tonnage and are fun to watch sink or burn or blow up.
