I've been doing a search for the Thermal layer Depth on the forums but can't find a firm answer. Plenty of mention of it but I haven't seen it posted anywhere. At what depth is the Thermal layer, and does anyone know if it's static or does it change depending on where you are? ex: off Hawiian coast compared to off of New Guinea?

It is at different depths, depending where you are.

But there is also a small program aplication called the thermalizer listed here that makes it change according to times of the year.

Just when you think youve seen it all.

I just dive till the diving officer 'announces' "passing thermal layer" and make a mental note of it.

I do this as a matter or routine so I know what that depth is more or less beforehand.

It helps some getting below it but its not a stealth sheild. No need to go stomping around there at flank.

I haven't dived all that deep so far so it wasn't announced. O.K. now I know, thanks.

As others have said, it's not a specific depth all the time. So far I've only seen it between 150 and 200 ft.
