Howdy,

I've read through the very dated information about SHIII being too graphically intense for laptops and was just wondering if it would play OK on a newer laptop with integrated graphics.

Has anyone had any success recently? If so, please tell me what you know about your laptops' graphics.

Thanks!

I stalled SH3 on my laptop (Acer Aspire 1800) and it works just fine.
Some specs:
Intel Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz
1 GB DDRAM
ATI Mobility Radeon X600 128MB

I'm playing with GWX mod and performance is fine. I don't know my exact video settings in SH3 cause I'm at work now.

Post your system specs so we can see if it will work for you.

I used to play SH3, GW 1.1a and GWX on a Laptop (3.3GHz CPU, 128MB Graphics Card, 512MB RAM) without any problems.

Thanks! Sorry for the very slow return to this thread.

If I had a laptop that I thought would run it I would just try it. I am looking at upgrading my trusty old IBM T23 (which has no chance of working). I would use it for business 90%, but I thought SHIII would be a good target for reasonable gaming while on the road, etc.

Sounds like Radeon X600 or better is a safe bet.

I've got a Toshiba Satellite laptop, 3.1 Ghz, 1 gig Ram, 80 gig HD, GeForce GoFX5700.
Can't run the supermods but SH3 itself works just fine :yep:

SH3 plays fine on my Hewlett Packard DV Pavillion laptop in either GWX or vanilla formats.

I did not buy that laptop for gaming, I bought it so I could get a copy of Vista without forking out for one on its own, and to have a cheap spare laptop that had enough RAM to run Adobe Creative Suite and Quark XPress. It's also particularly small, which is good for being on the road.

As such, it has only onboard graphics rather than a dedicated 3D graphics card, although it is otherwise well-specced, with 2 gigs of RAM and a dual-core processor. It's secondary use is as something to play on if I'm on a long train journey or stuck in an hotel. As a result of that, it has SH3 (GWX) on it, Dangerous Waters, FSX and a few other things of that nature. It runs them pretty well, which frankly amazed me where FSX is concerned. Note that you won't run SH4 on something like that though, as on board graphics rarely support pixel shader 2.0 It has Vista Home Premium edition as the OS by the way.

I'll certainly be flirting it down to London with me next week and playing SH3 on it.

I play SHIII with the GWX mod on a Vista laptop on occasion that is about 6 months old and an "integrated graphics" video. It has - Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset for a video dispaly adapter. It is a Gateway NX570X laptop with 2 gig RAM.

Works like a champ - that being SHIII w/current version of GWX. No problems - EVER. It is easier to play with an external mouse on the laptop instead of the built in touch pad mouse. If you play for a while with the with the touch pad mouse on the laptop, I assure you you will want to load up your shot gun with 6 rounds of magnum loads and pump all 6 rounds into the touch pad mouse on ANY laptop.

It will drive you NUTS!

The "can't run games on a laptop" line is obsolete. They're just as varied as desktops now and can be built solely for gaming. Integrated graphics though is another issue. If you have a built in Radeon class card or similar then all that matters are the same specs as on a desktop, the fact that its in a slimmer laptop body makes zero difference.

I have an older HP laptop. It's only 1.8 or so & doesn't have very good graphs card, but I can play just SH3 & Commander fairly well.
when the water goes over the scope my mouse is uncontrollable for a few secs, but then It comes back. It's not the best but it is workable...

I tried SH3 with no GWX on my new Toshiba Satellite U200-10D. It has Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 / 2 GHz and integrated Mobile Intel 945GM Express (which is obviously pretty weak graphically).

It ran okay at low res (1024 and widescreen, so the picture was a bit stretched :-?) on the Type XXI mission vs a carrier task force, but the cooling fan was running at full blast and the case got rather warm. Cooling 'pads' are available to put under the laptop or probably just raising it off the solid surface with some suitable 'feet' would help. I guess that mission is fairly intensive but a large convoy attack might be another matter, particularly with GWX which is a must for me.

I didn't like the heat thing (and the stretch) so haven't tried any further. Also it's a work machine so obviously I wouldn't be playing games on it ;).
