In 4 out of 5 times my SHIII crash to Desktop when I'm engaging an airplane or more.

I have SHIII+1.4b+GWX1.03 and some other mods

I have tried without the mods

Only without the GWX I can engage them without crashing the game.

So instead I dive.

I always dive, every single time, unless I'm somehow forced to be on the surface due to damage. Only as a last, defiant act before dying would I even consider engaging an aircraft with the flak gun. I feel the same way about using the deck gun against destroyers. I just don't do it.

For me, the only purpose of the flak gun is the entertainment value of using it on small coastal vessels - fishing trawlers and the like. There is something very satisfying about having a small fishing boat meandering towards you, never knowing that his doom lies near. You then quietly surface as close as possible - within 100m - and proceed to machine gun him into the next world.

Yeah, I like my short careers, I like the challenge of duking it out with aircraft and battleships/cruisers/destroyer. But as proven in point 3, I have my priorities straight.

I had the same error for a bit, I reinstalled and rearranged my mod order and hasn't happened since.

It takes only a bit of annoyance and forcing me to surface and make a valorous stand against a destroyer or a petty elco boat for example. I'd even present my bridge bristling with the latest AA guns to an incomming mosquito or a litter of catalina's and burn them down without casualties 60% of the time. But a battleship's 14 inch gun shell is a big no-no. Trust me, I'm speaking from experience. :dead:
