3 Sept 1939 , Home Base Kiel, Realism 82%.
U1 ( Type IIA), sailing for the first partrol. I went to my patrol zone (AN81). Submerged and listening but no near juicy targets. After 24h I completed patroling AN81. The weather was heavy fog , rain.
I was getting bored reading radio contacts away from me. IIA not enough fuel to hunt everybody , and the weather didnt help. If I intercepted a ship at night i could not see a thing the moment i was close enough to him.
So, I decided to go to Dover. I was closing surfaced at 5 knots ( due to heavy fog i was quite invisible)
Some warships(DDs) movement at a radius of 30 klm outside the harbour but noone near me. I reached the entrance of the harbour at night. I could not do anything cause I could not see a thing. I submerged and waited till the morning. I could see the ships only if i was near them 350-400 meters. Extra heavy fog. !!..
So my tactic was to stay submerged and moving at 1-2 knots. I was in very shallow waters , so if a DD heared me I was instantly dead. When I reached my first target (Small tanker) something strange happened. The only 1 DD and a Motor Torpedo boat that guarded the harbour crashed with each other. ( I woke them up by accident, I clik my mouse by mistake and ordered ahead full!!).
Lucky Captain I am. The good thing that then the port was unguarded. As a result 1 Fiji down( 1 imp torp at fore ammo bunkers, caught fire and sunk), 2 tramp streamers( 1 mag torp each) , 1 small tanker( 1 imp torp at bow, sunk by flooding) and a small merchant( 1 mag torp). I kept an electric on the way home , just in case a DD was chasing me.
I then waited for my crew to rest and now I am heading to Kiel home port( with low fuel!). I think I will celebrate and drink with my crew at a Kiel Bar.
A small ( and lucky!) hero:arrgh!: is being born. Brag now has a heir!!!!:rotfl:
P.S. I was only afraid of the mines of east coast. I went down from AN81 to Dover. Half the way submerged. But it is was like a walk in the park. Maybe mines dont cover Dover area , although GWX manual says it does....;)
P.S. I will stick to my IIA until VIIC comes out . I ll take my chances. Short patrols and caution.:ping:
P.S. This is my first GWX career!. ..I played stock SH3 2 years now. GWX is awesome.
