Hope someone out there can help. I am running SH3 1.4 with GWX 1.03, my system is Pentium D Dual Core 3.00 Ghz, 2GB DDR2 RAM, Ati x1300pro 256MB. Have suddenly developed a problem in Time Compression. @ 128 TC frame rate is 90+, however FR drops dramatically as TC increases:

@256 TC FR=19
@512 TC FR=3
@1024 TC FR=2

As I say this is a sudden development as previously game would run smoothly whatever the TC. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

That usually happens to me when there is a convoy or harbor within detection range or something. When your frames drop at, say, 2048x compression, go to periscope depth and your sonar should pick it up.

If it's a problem, my advice would be to disable antivirus software before playing. Also try enabling/disabling the second processor for sh3.exe. Any parallel load on the processor might be the problem.

With your specs you should be flying! obviously a CPU drain somewhere since it's to do with TC. Do an "Alt-Ctrl-Del" to bring up the task manager & check what applications are running & especially the processes, you may have a trojan running, check the CPU usage, that may give it away.:yep:

thx for advice, ran an ad-aware scan and restarted and appear to have solved the FR problem, however, now get save failed every time I try to save and receiving no radio messages. Also escort from harbour though shown to be moving was stationary and had no crew, also have had no contacts for a whole patrol and no convoys or anything showing up on the map. Very weird, thinking I may need to uninstall and reinstall

I have AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+, 2GB RAM Dual Channel, RAID 0 SATA Disks, ATI Radeon X1800XT 512RAM DDR3, on an ASUS A8N32 SLI(PCI16x) motherboard.WInXP SP2.

THe weird thing is that i have the same FPS problem.

I had to enable Lite Harour traffic!!! ... Not logical with these specs.

I only run Kaspersy Antivirus and my system is clean. I maintain my system well enough. My job is computer systems engineer.

Any suggestions?:hmm:

looks like problem may well have now been solved (thrown Bernard overboard:D ), have disabled harbour traffic and had to delete saved games back to end of mission 7 (was on mission 10) but now all appears well, fingers and everything else crossed. Will enable harbour traffic again when next in port and hopefully have seen the last of this problem. SH3 time is precious without having to waste large chunks of it because Bernard has sabotaged the workings:roll:

You have to keep another thing in mind that the game's original maximum TC is x1024. I've heard people use upto three times of that through customizing. Of course, the newer processors have much greater bandwidth (dual core, hyperthreading, larger and faster cache memory, etc.) but marginally better actual processing power (2.4ghz - 3.4ghz?) as compared to those when the game was released. I mean, even if you have a quad core, that's four cpu's in one package but the game will only use one core.

So, it might be a design factor of the game and there is nothing really wrong with our computers.

dont know if this is common knowlege but my frame rate improved by pressing ctrl-alt-del to bring up your processes then right clicking sh3.exe and setting the prioroty to "high", advise that you dont go as high as "realtime" as my system quivvered at the knees for some reason:o
