When you start a career and they tell you to patrol the Marshal Islands and you compleate that dont you get new orders?...What are you supposed to do?

Check the radio messages. You may have received new orders and missed them. If there are none - head for home.

Once you have completed your objective ( ie the icon turns grey) then you have to send a patrol report letting HQ know .

I'm guessing that if they don't send new orders (after you have, of course, sent in a patrol report signalling completion of the latest objective), that you are free to go home. I haven't seen anything like "return to base."
