Guys I'm stuck and could use some help.
I'm getting this error every time I try to launch my game. “can not initialize 3D engine”, the only option I get is to click “OK” this stops the game loading. Up until this, the game has been running flawlessly. I’ve tried everything I can think of, a search of the forums turned-up this “SH3_XPSP2_Res_Fix_for_1.4b”, but no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

slow your refresh rate down. example most monitors will run 120hz when using 800 x 600 but the game will only allow 85hz the higher the resolution the lower you must go

Hogan,
Thanks for the quick reply! I tried setting my resolution to 1024 X 768 and refresh rate to 60Hz, I tried re-booting at those settings No luck. I’m starting to think it might be a video driver issue. Last night I installed the latest ATI drivers from VisionTek. The game work fine right after that, but tonight......no luck. Could it be a CCC conflict?

Seth,
Thanks for the greetings,
I been lurking around for a while, it seems like a good community.
I re-installed the old drivers, and it all loads fine now. We’ll see what tomorrow brings, it’s to late for me to do more. *sight*

Welcome aboard, hope your fix works :D

Welcome aboard Kaleun Tireboy :arrgh!:
If your experiencing driver problems after updating them.....go to your hardware device page via control panel then system and click on the revert to old driver option
Another lurker surfaces! Welcome aboard

Glad you got it working Tireboy, drivers would have been the 2nd place i headed. Gameshadow and windows update are always trying to get me to upgrade to ati7.1's but since i have a 9200 card the 6.11's are the latest that ati supports my card.
i suggested the refresh rate since i play several other games where the quickest refresh rate plays the smoothest and i've seen that error message on more than 1 occasion when i forgot to slow my monitor back down lol

Thanks for the warm welcome, and for the help. So far so good, (running with the 7.6 drivers), but we’ll see what tonight brings. If there are any changes I’ll post it, either to ask for help, or just incase someone else runs into the same trouble.

Woohoo! TB, my man. Glad to see you step out of the sub pen shadows. The warm reception is typical of these forums and the folks' willingness to help is legendary. Maybe you and I can give multiplayer a whirl. (TB and I have been flying online for years, he got me started on SH3).

Lol, yessir, in fact we made our first foray into SH3 multiplayer last night. I got my kaeun's cap handed to me numerous times, but we both learned a lot and were impressed by the stability of the game through ubi.
Incidentally, the ATI driver problem that prompted this thread appears to be fairly pervasive and especially so for the AGP variety of the HD2600 card he's using. This I found from perusing the forums at rage3D, so it looks like ATI has dropped the driver ball yet again. ATI has always had pretty good hardware, but were short on driver support from time to time. They got better for awhile, but it looks like they're going to have a hard road trying to catch back up to Nvidia. I was in hopes their acquisition by AMD might herald a turnaround in driver support, but it hasn't materialized as yet.

More or less the same reasons I left ATI and went over to Nvidia for :yep:
