O.K. I've decided to start a career but I got some questions 1st. Should I start using the most basic boat? Kinda small, no radar, only 4 launch tubes, or should I pick one of the bigger ones? Crew-what should I look for when getting a crew? And what kind of stuff is good to get right away radar, guns, etc. Yeah I know noob questions but some good advise needed. Thank ya verry much.:-? P.S. I have no mods installed ATM so any advice on some mods would be welcome, I don't want to add to much right away though, stuff for equipment would be a start.

It depends on were you start. If I start in Asiatic Fleet I use the S class or porpoise class. If I start in Pearl I use the Porpoise class. I do not set up SD radar. I just go with the crew that is offered, no additions. When I started with the S class in Manila I did well with it and had it for 4 patrols until they saw fit to give me new construction. It is nice working your way up from the older boats to the new sporty models.

Thanks Warhawk, I noticed in Legion78 tutorial when he clicked on his buttons to activate equipment they turned green. How do I get that?

Green button mod. Can be found in the loooong list of mods in the mod workshop. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=118945
This is the original "green button" mod thread but it has evolved since then and is now folded into several larger mods http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=108359&highlight=green+button
Welcome to the world of modding ;)
As far as to 'which' boat to pick its really a matter of personal preference. I enjoy playing an S (pretty sure thats what the OP is describing) boat often, while some people despise them.

As Steamwake pointed out for the green button mod. One of the first mods when SH4 hit the hard drives:up:.
Also, Oakgrooves sub interior mod has this well and more. Very nice mod here. Now, it you grab Run Silent Run Deep mod or Tater's campaign layer mod, these will clip what subs you can use for the year you start your career. There is a lot going on over there in the mod forums. Have at it. Oh yeah, go the Reflections on the Water mod.

Been searching forums for a couple hours, I pretty sure I found the answer I was looking for about JSGME(placement and such). If I have problems I'll post for help, but don't think it will necessary. I found all sorts of stuff, very happy now.

The mods can make this game 100% better. The game I play now is light years away from what I first loaded and played. I was kinda dissapointed when I first got it then I found Subsim. The modders on this forum and the incredible amount of information that is here has made me an addict.:p (its sub crack!) You are going to have a ball outta this and you can be like most of us here and wait with reckless anticipation on the next great mod.;)

The very first career I ever started was a Porpoise class sub out of the Asiatic Fleet in December of '41. What a wild ride that was...the order of the day was "run for your life!" :arrgh!:

i started a new carrier,i sail from pearl harbor 1941,im using the latest trigger maru mod,the mission says to go to hanshua base and destroy enemy merchants.
ok i got there and the flag turn greyish ,which tells me that i got there, then you have another objective which is to sink all merchants ship, well i been all over in that zone, and i dont see any flags there,so i dont know when will the mission be over,i destroy 2 small merchants ships and a couple of planes,my question is why is there no flag for the second objective, and do i have to go all over that area, well i dont want to run out of fuel.any suggestion are apreciated.:arrgh!:

There's no flag for the destroy enemy shipping objective. You hunt, and you sink what you find. If I remember right, Ducimus made it so you only have to sink 3000 tons to complete that mission. Radio in once you complete it and you'll be given a new objective.
