It will run under Win98 just fine. My computer is a P2 Celeron at 300 mhz and that's a hair too fast for good playing. :D I bought it for my first computer which was a Epson XT (10 mhz, 20 Meg HD, Dos 3.3, Soundblaster/Adlib card and a CGA monitor.)

Epyx Sub Battle Simulator will run fine on my new computer. Silent Service 1 is too fast but Silent Service 2 works great as long as I keep the sound off (it never like Windows handling the sound!). AOD hates Win anything, but CAOD works fine
under Win98. :yep:

A delayed answer is better than no answer! This was my first subsim game in 1992:down: (IBM 8086-VGA card). Yes, not bad! Although my box was diffrent.

Then in 2001 (i think) I got SH1, was quite fun. Didnt know about SH2 Last year I found SH4, I had to get it. I couldnt go to that store without takeing a look at it again. Then oneday I asked my mom if she would get it for me and she said yes. I got SH3 after finding where I could get it. (UBI digital download). I have always been intrested in Ships, Subs, and WW2.

My very first u-boat game was out of one of those computer magazines, and it was in basic. You had to type all of it into the computer, debug it, then you could play.
It was on a vic-20 and the game was on a cassette tape.

Now that is old!

This would have been fun to play at the subsim shin dig.

OLD !!! My first computer used a wood fire for a power supply. And the game was chizeled on stone. :p Anyone got an older rig than that ?:D

Nice video for those who haven't seen Wolfpack :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Rh1Y9zgmF8

My first subsim was Silent Service on Commodore 64, really was too young to understand it. Tho, I did sink quite a few ships IIRC. :hmm:

My first "serious" subsim was indeed the Wolfpack. Got it at the same time with my first 2 flightsims, Secrets weapons of the Luftwaffe & B17.

Great game it was. :yep:

Tho, I never had sound card on the old PC, so never knew what it sounded like. :(

Sure. My first computer was powered by the big-bang and the HDD was made of condensed hydrogen, because matter didn't even exist back then

I still fire it up occasionally, quite ahead of its time in many ways. I like the fact that they had different commander AIs etc and of course having controllable surface vessels and a full scenario editor in the same package was awesome.

Novalogic were working on a sequel in 1999/2000 but sadly it got canned, it would have been interesting to see what they could do with today's technology.

Very cool, Firewall, gold star indeed!

I played Wolfpack a bit a few weeks ago to get some new screenshots for the Mystery Subsim Challenge, neat game.

I really liked this game. It was very innovative, you could play your own custom scenarios, play wolfpacks, play as destroyers or merchants, it had everything you could had in a sub sim in the early 90's before Silent Service II torpedoed it out of the water...

Played wolfpack all the time. It was my muse when I was 12...Way back in the day.....1993 style:rock:

I did!!!

I always played as an escort, loved the hedgehog. I took out a few u-boats back in the day. I am also embarassed to claim that I managed to sink a friendly escort with an "accidental" firing of my hedgehog....fire accidentaly 3x.

I finally got the CD version with the animations. Prior to that I played the Broderbund version installed from a 3.5" floppy. You had to type in words from the manual to play that.

I got really good at the first mission, easysub. I torpedoed all the ships. However I didn't get much further than that.

I need to revisit that game. Old graphics don't bother me...I kinda like 'em.
