He probably means to make it where you can see better at night.
historically - thats part of the reason for the red lights inside the sub... to let the eyes adjust to darkness for night.
peering through the periscope a sub skipper would have little more than his naked eye to rely on for good night vision.
im not really sure if anyone has even tackled a mod to increase the brightness of the scope or give it "night vision". not that such a thing was really available in 1940.
im not sure how much interest there would be around here in such a mod to be honest... im sure some people would use it, but not most.
good luck... maybe someone here knows :hmm:
I often find the night vision available through the periscope unrealisticly bright. Especialy on cloudless nights in calm seas, I would like a mod to make it harder :p

Oh yes. I think orangewhale should increase gamma at your LCD/CRT.

I think at the periscope screen is to many bright and shiny things which disturb viewing. For example panel with torp. buttons or oval, shiny ring with Zeiss label.
In my opinion there should be a hole on the center of black screen without any things.
I'm looking for such mod. Maybe someone could help?

When I was out to sea in the navy, on a cloudy, moonless night I can tell you this:
You can't even see your hand in front of you. Literally!!!

OuNis,
I am very sure I have seen a mod. for the black-out border around the scopes. It's out there.
I'm all for more realism, dark night, dark sight.

All ships used red lights at night. It not only cuts down on the blindness factor, but is harder to see from another ship.
The reason the night surface attack was so necessary was that in real life periscopes don't let in enough light. You shouldn't be able to use the periscope at all, unless the moon is bright enough.

I have even seen ships using blue lights... wonder why.
airplane cockpits use the red interior lighting as well
