After 100 years, the good old Freiherr vom Stein Schule is no more :(
Ok, most of it was from the 70s, though.
Apparently the preserved the old tract with the auditorium, which was the only part in somewhat the condition of 1907 anyway and integrate it in the new building.
I graduated 1999
Kinda makes you think that a building that used to play such a big role in your life suddenly is just a memory...
Kinda makes you realize you're getting old

So it goes. Unlikely to happen to my old school so soon, the Rheingau-Oberschule in Berlin - it is such a nice (and old) building that in recent years it has repeatedly served as scenery for TV movies and even a school series.

Good memories I have of my second half of school years (and neutral ones of the first half). My Abitur in Winter 1985. Life was friendly, and time was wide.

Gone.

When seeing the young schoolkids today what they have to deal with at gymnasiums, I can only shake my head. The system definitely is derailed.

Well, so far they've torn down my high school and two of the elementaries I've attended here in the States. That leaves my junior high which should be torn down because it's the ugliest damn building. It's a way of life over here. I watch retail stores around malls get built, go out of business and torn down a few years later for another retail store. Seems nobody remodels an existing building anymore.

All good things come to an end............................and life goes on..........So much history tends to be destroyed....................always sad.........

I hate when history is paved over in the name of "progress." My condolances to you...at least it will live on in your memories, where no wrecking ball can ever touch it!

At one time the best hting that could happen to my old high school was for it to burn down (alot of people tried to make it happen!) They did rip down part of it and replace it, but they gave the rest of the school a major overhaul and it seems to be alot better than it was!

My secondary (high school) was next to GCHQ. Green blazer, dark gray or black trousers, white or gray shirt, and a grey and green striped tie. They demolished it when they built the new GCHQ. You were it if you wore a Ben Sherman shirt and a Crombie. We were too poor to be in the it crowd. But I did join smokers corner. Was a pity to see it gone.

Well, the School's going to get a new building run with a public private partnership.
Basically, some private contractor builds the school and takes care of it and the City of Frankfurt leases it for a whopping amount of money.
As if generations of honest Frankfurt school janitors weren't able to run "their" schools.
Perfect way to distribute taxpayer's money and public real estate to political cronies..
:damn:

Originally it was only to be renovated, then somebody realized that money could be made here and called in a few political favors.
Result: A shabby but perfectly good school building torn down, and the city of Frankfurt losing valuable real estate.
