20th August 1942
In need of repairs by repeated and deadlier aerial engagements, I docked at the closest north african coastal base called Tobruk. Previously under allied control, the tommys and co. were obviously desperate to get it back. That's exactly what happened when I was leaving at night after necessary repairs.

As I boarded my boat, the only ship of it's class in that region, I was attacked by what seemed like allied infiltrators in disguise of neutral / civilian naval outfit.
"Mein Gott.. ALARRMMM!"
They were firing at me from all sides and they couldn't get a cleaner shot as the depth under keel was only 12m. I did not have the advantage. Without any hesitation, I told my valorous gunners to man their stations and we remained in the docks, taking the surrounding structures as cover from their shelling and returned fire.
Soon the hijacked elco torpedo boat ahead of us met it's sorry end after exchanging some artillery and some minimal damage to my boat. It was now time to run the gauntlet and escape!
Moving out I took a 90 degree turn to port and switched to ahead flank.
"Maximum power chief! Give me all you got!" The machinists all gave it their best and squeezed every last bit of power out of the diesel engines. As I came into view, a small boat started firing at us from aft and hit my flak gunner. That was it! I quickly manned the twin 20 mm cannon myself and silenced him. It sent me into a rage, but I knew well to control myself and conserve the eels "25 thousand marks a piece..." I thought, and there were only two left.
My petty officer, a seasoned gunner, was at the forward deck manning the 88. Within seconds he had taken out another boat to the starboard as the crew roared and cheered. They had been through much worse. The chief down below and a damage control team were busy repairing the boat as we struggled to fight our way through the madening treachery.
"FASTER! FAAASTERRRR! Damn... Dammit!" I yelled down the hatch. I knew my boat was not built for this and this was my crew's 5th patrol or perhaps our last, we didn't know.
Just when I thought this could not get any worse, a hijacked german vessel opened fire from port and somewhat ahead of us. "This is it.." I thought, I was out of ideas. Just then my gunner scored a lucky shot, piercing through the Vorpostenboot's deck like a rum puncheon. A few moments later his ship was out of commision, unfortunate for Davey Jones that I could not send the saboteurs all the way down to him.
For once I was out of danger. I could see distant flashes and bangs from guns elsewhere, but it was dark and far away and we were in a hurry. Lucky for us the Soldati class just outside guarding the entrance to the starboard did not open fire. We had no time to investigate.
As the shootout finally stopped I told my navigator to plot a course to La Spezia, considering the condition the boat was in, it was time to get out of here.
End of story.
P.S.: I'm not sure if this is a GWX associated bug (something that was overlooked?) or stock. Anyway, it made little sense to me other than the RP story I just wrote.
