After a few years of service in Il2 and then SH3, perhaps I need to dust off my credit card?
Oh, its a 9800Pro running as an XT by the way.

More info? Ongoing problem?

Yeah, that looks more like a mod conflict or game bug than a video card problem.
Does it happen in other titles?
Try downloading 3dMark03 (http://www.futuremark.com/download/) and run through the test on that - see if there are any artifact, and what score it gives you.
Not saying a new card isn't NICE...I mean, SH4 with most the popular mods brings my X1950Pro to its knees...but...if you don't HAVE to yet, it's probably a better idea to hold off for a whole system upgrade. Current and new games are starting to really like quad core CPUs and 2-4gb of ram, so...

I've experienced the same graphics problem once. But after saving and then reloading the game I've never seen the problem again.

Thanks guys, will do some testing! It's not a problem I see all the time, only occasionally and not usually in other games (for example Il2 1946 is fine). So perhaps it is a mod / software problem or the dreaded overheating. Glad to hear it's not a definite sign of trouble though.

No I dont regard this as a hardware related issue. By the way its not wrong to remove dust from the ventilation units (GPU,CPU) from time to time.
Or even remove the graphics card and clean the contacts with a little amount of isopropylic alcohol.

I think that's a graphics glitch in the game - related to the change of weather types. I saw it occasionally. It even prevailed through a load, so i thought it was just a game bug. But then again, last night my computer failed to boot - blue screen at windows - i had been getting bad graphics artifacting for weeks...i think she finally died. :nope:
I sometimes get this, but only after prolonged periods at high TC (about 256 my maximum). It tends to go away after things cool down. Is this happening to you during normal game play or after using high TC. It might be worth looking at your AGP card's cooling, if it isn't well enough fitted allready. I use an ATI Radeon X800 XT 256 Mb agp card.

Every once in a great while I get that too plus other oddies in the graphics .... as 3Jane states once the card cools down a bit all goes back to normal ... I use a Radeon X-700 pro 256MB card .....
When SH3 first came out I had a Radeon 9800 pro as you do and it finally burned up ... if you notice doing other things on your computer strange colors or tiny spinning colored boxes every so often ... the card will be getting tired and will die ...
Vacillator, what are you using for a GFX card? An upgrade always helps in the long run. ;)
But as the others are saying, it sounds like a mod problem and could also be heat related too.

Thanks all, I'm thinking it was heat related issue as I don't get problems most times at sea or in the air.
GT182 (sounds familiar from the Il2 boards?), it's a 9800Pro but with an XT bios and running at XT defaults. Fitted an Arctic Silencer Rev 3 (from memory) and has always been okay for Oleg's fantastic work. Cooling can be an issue for me but usually it's the CPU. Looks like I can stick with what I've got, at least until BoB comes out ;).
