View Full Version : What is meant by "In THe Brig"?

I just saw a post in which Ducimus' avatar shows him "in the brig". Could someone enlighten me on what this is all about?
What does "in the brig" mean in the forum? I know what it is IRL.
Who puts you "in the brig"?
What offences put you there?
What did Ducmus do to get there?
Is this a gag?

Puzzeled and confused.....

Neal Stevens (owner of subsim.com) is the only person who can put a user in the Brig. This means that the user's account is disabled for a period of time, determined by Neal depending on the offence committed.

The Brig is the last resort, and truthfully, Neal hates to disable an account and really has to be shown that there is no other choice. A Moderator will only recommend the Brig if all other methods of persuasion have failed and a user continues to behave inappropriately.

It means the person has misbehaved in some way (my guess is SH3 vs SH4-debacle), and is not capable of posting for a while. A couple of weeks, probably.

Edit: Dang, TDK, change your nick to Lucky Luke!

It's the same as a "Ban" at other forums. But we keep a sea theme here..... :rotfl:

Make sure you :ahoy:steer clear of the brig. Lots of bad folks in there. Speaking of the brig, we had this one @$$hle that stabbed one of our Sailors pent up in there for a while. We all wanted to beat the crap out of him so bad. Poor girl was stabbed for no reason:hulk:

I rather thought it was a bit of a joke... tongue-in-cheek sorta thing for Ducimus not wanting to continue development on TM. *helpless shrug* Just goes to show how much I know.

Edit: Saw the thread, and it certainly brings a bit of a somber light to the community. Man, why can't we just get along? :nope:

:hmm: I've been away for a bit, but hope all is well with Ducky and he's out of the Brig now.

At least the "Brig" isn't a permanent ban.... just a short time thing ta make ya pay attention and behave. LOL

More or less been this way for quite a while....with so much emotional investment in these mod works, its bound to have tempers ride high.

The permament ban is being Kheelhauled.:dead: Not something to aim for. Neal only hands this after repeated warnings. If you want to see what brings this about, check this thread.

for an outright and final total ban there should be a court-martial held here in the forum. i don't see that Ducimus should be in the brig over that thread

When you're caught naked on the surface by a plane, the water all around is boiling with bullets and the captain says, "Man the AA guns," he who hesitates is lost, along with his whole crew and the boat. Our good captain listens to his crew and allows a lot of latitude and difference of opinion, but when he gives an order it must be obeyed instantly, without question and without regard for your own personal safety. Discipline took us this far and discipline will take us home.

All the blokes over at that other forum bite and scratch each other like a bunch of rabid housecats and can't figure out why Ubi and the devs don't pay any attention to them. It's a real shame a man the caliber of Ducimus has to spend time in the brig, but just a peek "over there" shows what happens when the ship has no discipline. A smart and tight ship that we can be proud of is no democracy.

If I ever step over the line and be sent to the brig, I'll do my time with pride, bein' an example that sometimes a rough and ready crewman steps over the line. He pays his time and comes out a better man, knowin' whose in charge. You WOULD sneak me some grub from the galley while I'm in there wouln't you? I hear the food in there would gag a maggot.

That's rather a broad and encompassing statement. Are you trying to annoy everyone who frequents the SH3 Boards.:hmm:

I guess Neal's comments get ignored by some people.

As for your statement regarding Ducimus' caliber, this will not be a personal attack, but be under no illusions, he has dirtied these forums as much as the rest of us. We all have good/bad days, Ducimus will not deny it, I will not deny it as will anyone else who may have been involved with past events in Subsim. It's just the nature of internet forums

The things that fuel these events are comments like yours and like Ducimus from the thread that resulted in brig time for two members. Remember, the boards are open to everyone and as such, any negative comments (in either direction) will be read and responded to accordingly. The best we can hope for is people to keep their head when posting and to think whether their words may offend people.

Let's just move on here and do our thing in a respectful and mature manner, in what ever forum folks choose to frequent.

Neal and the mods here will keep this ship, err sub on course, lets do our best to help them do just that

See? You take me wrong!!! What is wrong with your head, thinking "that other forum" must be our own SH3 board? You are our brothers! :arrgh!:SH3 was my first love and still commands a place in my heart! The GWX crew is my US Cavalry! By "that other forum" I mean the non-SUBSIM board: the one without the good and strong commander who is the subject of my entire post. Heaven forbid that I should cast insult to our own people. If I be found guilty of that throw me in the brig and feed me rats!!!

Could my post have been so badly written that you could not understand my meaning? Time for another of those damnable polls!!!

I disavow any statement by anyone that attempts to drive a wedge between players of the two best submarine simulations on the planet. SH3 and SH4 are complimentary, not competitive, having entirely different subject matter and lessons to teach. There is some cross fertilization, and even that is complimentary, not predatory. Fanboys in the perjorative sense of the word are defending a position they need not take. Count me a fanboy in the positive sense of both amazing simulations!

Am I clear? Any questions? Here, let me eat one of these ship rats to prove my repentance. Anybody have any hot sauce? :gulp:

I should have put the word "here" after "brig" in my first post. Aha! I see how it could be misread now. After the first one, these rats start to taste pretty good. Pass the BBQ sauce! I'm gonna need some toothpicks.

Agree completely. Choosing between the two is like choosing what beer you'd like. Local or Heineken?

Sad to hear Ducimus got thrown in the brig though. But then again, I'm partial, I've enjoyed so many hours of his work through these months, that I could forgive him almost anything :)

Then again, I am equally sure the powers that be around here, is well aware of Ducimus merits to the community, and as such, it makes me glad to see they do not play favourites. It's the only way to keep up a proper forum really.

edit: spelling...
