No storybook ending after tycoon dolls up village (http://www.cnn.com/2007/LIVING/wayoflife/10/14/aurora.makeover.ap/index.html)

Interesting affair. I'm not sure what to make of it... overzealous eccentric tycoon who plays god? Typical squable-prone small townpeople who wish for something better but hold it back? How do you achive great things without great drive? But at what price? Are there always some people who resent seeing things change for the better...just because they're petty? Who gets the final say, hims with the gold or the serfs?

Talk about your Age of Empires scenario :hmm:

After reading the article, I was reminded of this Iris Dement song, "Our Town":

I can relate to this. I had to go back to Benicia in January for a friend's memorial service. I see the few childhood friends I still have there hanging on by the skin of their teeth.

Fascinating. While reading the article I changed my mind about who was right and who was wrong at least three times.

It's interesting what people find to agree and disagree on. Possibly she could have consulted more on what the locals wanted, but who knows what would have changed?
