I don't know if the signatures are worth that much but where is the smear part on that letter?

That maybe your opinion of this orator, but he is not a government official, using the government dime, to attack a private person. If you don't like his opinion, one need not listen . . . there are dozens of other radio stations that you can chose to listen to.

Misrepresentation of Limbaugh's use of the term "phoney soldiers". Do a little bit of elementary searching.

Too true. Also, these are American senators, elected officials in the highest offices of our government, condemning a citizen for speaking his mind. People scream and cry "free speech" when some jackass gets tazered by rent-a-cops for violating the rules at a privately- funded speaking event, but allow an atrocity like this to occur with no flailing, controversy, or even media coverage. The fact is, members of our government attempted to silence one of our citizens through a blatant act of intimidation in the form of a petition; coming dangerously close to violation of the 1st amendment. The silence from the (usually loud) civil liberties group is shocking. Note the signatures of those running for a presidential bid- including Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Politicians are also entitled to free speech, no less than Joe Citizen.

The main difference is that you hope and pray that the politicians elected into office will be honest and of good reputation - oh - and a little intelligence would be nice, too.

Petitions do not violate the 1st Amendment. They are everyone's right, allowed by the 1st Amendment. It's slander and libel that are prohibited by law. Use your free speech to break those laws and be prepared to pay the price.

Yes they are still allowed to speak freely under their first amendment right . . . however, they need not do it on the government dime, entering their statements (which do not impact the government) into their respective house's records.

If you're referring to the Senators' letter, I did, way before this thread started. It is a continuation of the smear.

I suggest again that you search for the context of what Limbaugh was referring to as "phoney soldiers".

Yeah, they jumped on Limbaugh's unfortunate choice of words. Pretty stupid decision on their part. Limbaugh apoligized too. I guess they regret it now.

Politicians are indeed entitled to all the rights citizens hold. However, these politicians were not speaking as citizens, but were using their government offices to make a statement. (You can view it online at Democrats.senate.gov). I'm all for those guys using their private lives to do what they wish to whomever they wish, as long as no laws were broken. It's their right to do so. But these douchebags used up time in the senate- time we pay for- to condemn a citizen through petition. That's a fine line they're putting their toes on, is all I'm saying, and is the closest thing to a violation of free speech that's come along in awhile. It's also in extremely bad taste.

I have no problem with this in principle. Imagine if it were true that a famous public personality of popular influence actually did say something so negative about the US military to an audience of 100s of thousand or millions over the airwaves. I would be very proud if my elected representatives opened up their mouths to say the right thing for a change.

My problem is:

1. They were 100% wrong.

2. Of all people to accuse others of harming and insulting our troops, Reid should shut his fat mouth. What a disgusting hypocrite.

On the plus side, while Harry Ried is fiddling with writing letters to the CEO of Clear Channel and reading Moveon.org sound bites into the Congressional Record, he can't actually do what he and his cohorts were elected to do.

And the procedes from the Ebay auction will be going to a worthy charity.

Actually, Limbaugh never apologized. Nor did he need to. He was talking specifically about 1 individual who was indeed a fraud. A "phony soldier" if you will. Not an unfortunate choice of words at all. It was indeed very accurate. But yeah, the Democrats probably regret purposely twisting a lie to try and smear Limbaugh. It actually looks like Limbaugh is making fools of Harry Reid and other Democrats who signed the letter with this auction.

Did he?? If he did, that's just funny as hell. :rotfl: From what I know, he didn't make an apology on his own behalf though. Nor did he need to.

It's obvious the Democrats are just trying to twist Limbaugh's words to deflect their own lack of support for our military. And trying to deflect some of the terrible and demoralizing things they've said against our military. Looks like they picked a bad fight against Limbaugh though. They're probably going to regret it if they don't already.

He did though. It was on his own site but mysteriously that page disapeared and a totaly different one is in it's place. Interesting. Seems he also edited the soundbyte. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,298858,00.html (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,298858,00.html) Kind of funny him doing all this editing.

Of course you have no proof. No surprise there. And the story you post shows a very unapologetic Limbaugh. I did look into his site and he doesn't seem apologetic at all. I do see links on his site ridiculing the Democrats in question. He does take note that his approval rating in Nevada is higher than Harry Reid's. :rotfl: Looks to me like Limbaugh is having fun at these Democrat's expense.

If he edited the soundbyte as reported by Fox he sure isn't going to think twice about editing his own site. Seems El Rusho is well....... El Rusho. Maybe he was high when he did it.

I'm sure you can find the original text, saved on some site somewhere (DU?) and post it here.

I'm very curious what you're referring to. The only thing I found Rush mentioning as far as apologizing goes is that at the start of his Oct. 2 radio broadcast, he was willing to apologize to Sen. Tom Harkin's own family for Harkin's own behavior on the Senate floor.

Are you sure that's not the apology you're referring to? :hmm:

Kind of hard to do if Limbaugh changed the page out. What reason would I have to lie about it? Same as why did he edit the soundbyte? No Harkin wasn't even mentioned.
