View Full Version : What Breed of Cat Please?

Reece

Hi, 6 months ago I had to take one of my cats to the vet to be put down after a snake bite that also caused him to go blind, yesterday I took my other cat in as it had an ear infection that turned out to be cancer & had to have her put down. I am a cat lover & this particular cat was a good friend always following me where ever I went, a very good companion, anyway I thought I would get another cat & always wanted one such as:
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h244/Reecehk/WhatCatisthis.jpg
or:
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h244/Reecehk/WhatCatisthis2.jpg

Does anyone know what breed these are, the second looks a little like a scottish fold?:)
Many thanks.

The big (or should i say fat :D) guy on top looks like a "Kartäuser"http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild:Kartaeuser1.jpg http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kart%C3%A4userkatze as we name them here - sadly i don't know their english name, maybe "Chartreux". They always have this steel-blue plushy skin and are usually quite tall. You cannot go wrong with this cat as they are usually calm and adherent and have a nice character. There are also British Shorthair with this color but they are smaller ...

Yes, i also think that the lower is a Scottish Fold.

I'm sorry Reece, but I own a Alaskan Malamute wolf. We both kinda don't like cats, I kick them and the wolf eats them....but I must say, I dont mind the look of that big smokey grey cat, nice looking.

(only joking about the kicking).

Reece

That's ok Venatore I kick dogs but there ya go!!:yep: ..... Just kidding I shoot them ..... just kidding again!:smug:
Thanks Lurchi, I will look into the name, it may not be available here in Australia & if it is it maybe way too pricey!!:D

Thanks Takeda Shingen, you don't really know how much you get attached to pets untill something like this happens, I live in the bush & cats are a must really for the rats, mice & yes even the snakes, better the cat than one of my grand children! But yes it still hurts!
Cheers.

Reece, a double blow that must of hurt big time, sorry to hear that bad news I know how it hurts. I like cats as they are smart not like a dog at all try throwing a stick for the cat to pick up and the cat looks at you as to say you threw the stick don't look at me.

I know what your saying Steed, Dogs have masters & Cats have slaves!! An old saying but quite true!:yep: I try not to think about it now, the last thing the vet said is would you like to say goodbye, all I could do was say no & swallow a few times, trying to tough it out, grown men don't cry, maybe not but I got close!!
Anyway enough of this bad news.
I am looking forward to finding a new kitten, my wife says I'm an old softy!:yep:

Reece, you have my sympathy on this. I lived out of the way of civillisation with my Cat for 18 1/2 years and was broken hearted when she had to be put down, couldn't cry or listen to music for weeks, I was so numb.
I had her cremated and kept the ashes and also have an online Memorial to her ..

Reece, I found the Memorial a great help, something you could maybe consider ?

I used to have a cat that would fetch rolled up socks... bring em back and deposite them right in front of your feet and patiently wait for you to toss em again... I think he was a "Tabby Retriever".... :know:

My heartfelt smpathies as I am an animal lover and don't want to know what my emotions would be if I lost one of my family members'

Agreat memorial to your cats would be to go to the Animal Shelter and adopt a couple of cats.

They need homes and love too. And as you know will give back unconditional , unlimited love. Go do it. Now.:)

Reece

go to the Animal Shelter and adopt a couple of cats Yes I could, the ones I had were from people dumping them, when I moved here I had to contend with around a half dozen stray Toms. 3 years ago I was attacked by a feral cat, it was howling and walked bold as brass to within a few feet away, I thought it must be tame so I put my hand out & the bloody thing lept on it!:nope:
My hand was badly mauled & infected, I ended up in the hospital for over a week, I now have arthritis in my left hand, no kidding!!:yep: Probably why I would like an indoors cat now!!
Reece, that's a British Shorthair Thanks MookieMookie, I did find that out, the one in the picture is a little overweight, it happens that my son works with the daughter of a British Shorthair breeder, I have asked him to find out the cost, I'll bet it's a few bob, the animal shelter may be the next stop! I stipulated (if I can afford it) that it must be blue!!:smug:
Thanks all.

My best friend's sister and mother rescue feral cats and find them good homes after they get them healthy and people friendly.

It's amazeing how they seem to accomplish it.

I hope I see a post soon that you have two new family members. :yep: :D

:D I've a british Short hair too

but..she has a manual thought
after been thrown as a kitten by some dumb kid of a other family and decided to put it in the shelter as that dumb kid wanted a RED cat! ffs:nope:

thus we took it before they brought it to the shelter
scared she was, she didnt came close to us for weeks...after that..well we could touch her...but if you did it on surprise or she didnt see your hand first...you could lick your fingers for sure...
now...you still need to be carefull in the aproach and she still has a thing for strangers that she stays away on a distance...
and she is a very strong lady ;) when a petdoctor though she could grab her in the neck and take a look in the ears..she turned her body around...bited her thumb...and from elbow till hand she opened up with her nails....
so....now she is in the computer as ''Extremly Dangerous'' (good girl!)
she didnt listen to the advice that she had to take some gloves first.....before grabbing...

anyway...now she even sorta talks :D
she replies when you say things to her...
but she is a strong healthy lady.
if I get home I will see if I can find a photo

All of our cats have been strays

The current 4 ( ! ) consist of a mother and her 2 growing rapidly sons and a kitten we rescued from a family over the road

We acquired the mother and sons after one of our previous cats befriended her
:rotfl:
You know what I mean
Anyhow she gave birth to the kittens over at the same house we rescued the latest from

The mother obviously didnt trust the family as bought the kittens over the road and under my decking
Which meant half a day for me taking up the deck to get them out

So a trip down the vets with the father for the snip led to the vets finding out he had cat aids so was put down
As was our other cat with aids too - he was a stray too
Both had been fighting with all and sundry and each other

Tests revealed the mum and kittens ok so we kept them
In fact the boys have just been down the vets today and came back minus a few bits

:rotfl:

Am not a great cat lover but would never see one suffer although I do have a sof spot for jaffa the latest kitten - though not when he climbs up my back while on the comp
He is getting heavier and his claws sharper

The wife on the other hand is cat crazy and would have more

Thanks Jim, I know how loving they can be so I won't blame all cats for what the feral one did, but if I see another feral I'll give him a wide berth!!:yep: actually there is another lurking about, he leaves his trade mark around, phew,:dead:

Firewall, I might just stick to one now, & keep it indoors, that way no fighting with feral toms, snake bites, fleas etc!

That's some cat HunterICX, I can see by her eyes that she is a little nervous & cautious, can you pick her up yet?

That's nice Tchocky, she knows who loves her!:smug:

I would be interested to see your cat picture lesrae, the pictures I posted aren't my cats, they are what I would like, I do love the cat's with the pushed in face but apparently they have a lot of breathing problems, so I think I'd geve em a miss.:yep:

BBW, you seem to have a similar situation to us, nearly all our past cats are from strays or unwanted, all have been tabbies except the one that died of a snake bite 6 months ago, he was tabby gray & mostly white, we called him "The Fonz"!

Kpt. Munson, sorry I didn't respond, wasn't sure what to say, I wouldn't go to all that trouble, I may have for our first cat that got run over, a very special cat of all that one, it took me weeks to get over his death (before we had children), I just like to put it behind me and try to get over it, not always easy as you know!:yep:

Thanks All.

I have two cats right now - not sure what breed they are, but they are probably mixed. One of them (named Toby) was a stray we found in our back yard on the verge of starving, and the other (named Max), was offered for free in a classified ad because the owner's daughter was allergic to him. Of course, bringing Max home with Toby already there did not prove easy - our dog got along with the newcomer right away, but Toby hissed and refused to go near him until some time that night (he just seemed to calm down at that time for no apparent reason). Anyway, both cats get along alright now - sometimes we hear them running all over the furniture and playfighting 3:00 in the morning.

I had another cat a long time ago; a stray mixed breed (although part persian I think) that my aunt found abandoned in a post office and which my family then adopted and named Muffin. Even after being adopted, she always remained a little saucy, refusing to get up in anyone's lap and occasionally biting- we loved her anyway though. She had to be put to sleep about seven years after getting cancer - she remained apparently healthy almost to the end, but the last evening of her life, she started falling over and banging into walls, although she wouldn't give up trying to walk, even that night.

Anyway, here's a couple of recent pictures of Toby and Max (Max is the bigger fluffier one). I don't believe it, but I don't have a single picture of Muffin on my laptop.:nope: I have lots more of Toby and max, but three is enough for now.

Aww! :yeah: How much furniture do you still have? :03::haha:

It's been a while since I've posted some pics of ours and I took some the other day, so let's have a guided tour. (Image spam!)

This is Mishka, our youngest, her current most favourite object in the world is a cardboard box that my other half got a model kit in. She likes to jump up in front of the computer screen but if I point at the box and go "Box!" she jumps straight down and into the box with something akin to absolute glee. She has a strange habit of puffing herself up when she's happy (while most other cats do this when they're scared). We got her when looking at a caravan, some dockworkers near by had found her and she was in bad shape with a collar that was several sizes too small and scabs all over her face.

http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/4899/0000229.jpg

http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/1676/0000180t.jpg

This is Tiggers, our second youngest. He is the hunter of the pack, built rather like a cheetah and can run like one too. Rabbits rarely stand a chance but he prefers smaller game such as mice and voles. Often lures humans into the trap of tickling his stomach whilst he is sprawled out on his back, and then eats their hand. Rather an easygoing cat, enjoys playtimes, usually in the evening when everyone else is bedding down for the night and he wants to go out (we don't let them out of an evening due to hunters and other nocturnal nasties). Will sit on your shoulder like a parrot and let you walk around. Likes playing in water. Has a strange habit of sticking his paw in the water bowl whilst drinking. We got him from a friend who had got him from a family who had been mistreating him.

http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/1076/0000225.jpg

http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/5381/hpim0949.jpg

This is Nikita, now our second oldest, although to look at her you would not think it. She's not grown much in size since she was about six months but just lately she's grown outward a bit. She's the current leader of the pack, and is first into any food that gets put down anywhere. A bit of a scaredy cat, she was the kitten of a feral cat who used to visit us from a location up the road and who we used to feed. Sadly, one day whilst this cat was transferring her kittens from her den up the road into our back garden she was hit by a car and killed. We found Nikita in our back garden shortly afterwards, a scared and lonely little girl. Sadly we never found the other kittens although we're sure at least one survived because a cat that looked a lot like Nikita appeared a few months later.
One of her nicknames is 'Unifang' due to a rather strange situation where all but one of her canine teeth have fallen out. Doesn't seem to stop her eating though! :haha:

http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/5593/0000213a.jpg

And last but certainly not least, our oldest, at an age of somewhere between 19-21, Isis. The grand old lady of the family, not quite with it any more, we suspect that's she's deaf now and her eyesight is not fantastic and her balance is...well...not top par. She spends most of her time asleep on the fleece that we've put on the settee for her. A Cats Protection League cat we've had her since 1992 and she's outlasted many younger than her, including the cat we got with her (Merlyn) who the CPL claimed was her son, whether or not this was the case we do not know but on the day we took Merlyn to be put to sleep, she licked him once on the head, almost as though saying goodbye. There will be a big hole in the family the day she goes home, that's for certain, but we hope that she'll still be with us this time next year

The last cat to die here was Tozzie, he was around 23 years old, had to feed him soft stuff because his teeth were gone, almost deaf and partially blind, still got around ok but we had to trim his nails or they would catch on everything!!:yep: He wasn't eating well near the end and was losing weight so we had him put down, have only the kitten now and Trixie, she belonged to my daughter but due to rent conditions couldn't keep her so we inherited her!!:03: You certainly have quite a horde of unusual cats with obvious character, how old is Nikita, she looks too young to have lost all her teeth, if Tozzie had a bad tooth he used to bite down on a piece of wood then pull back and leave his tooth in the wood, quite smart I thought!!:yep: But owch!!:dead: Tiggers looks like he loves life!!:DL A nice pack of mates you got there Oberon!

It's a very small garden.Sorry to hear the Fish, I will say that strays are a problem, we have people dumping them in the country here and they are a pest, I have had to kill a few, I don't like it but they are wild, I spent a week in hospital from being bitten by a feral cat, so I do understand what you say but I also have some pets that are looked after loved and they do keep the mice and rats at bay here, have also lost some to snake bites but better than my grandchildren getting bitten, so you see there are 2 sides of the coin, really the problem is with humans not cats!

Anyway, I think the cat in the first post is a Russian Blue.

You should see my daughters cat. Just the common alley cat type cat. He is wild and full of personality. Little pecker likes to go behind my computer desk and step on the plug strip button shutting everything down :shifty: He is a really cool cat.

Wow that cat is a dead ringer for my cat 'Screech' which we had to put down over the summer. She had suffered a stroke evidently and was blind and paralized in the back legs. We had that cat for nearly 18 years... brings a tear to my eyes.

I remember you posting about Screech because I remember the name. 18 years is a bloody good time, we're constantly astonished with Isis and her longtevity, but we're not looking a gift horse in the mouth!

Biggles, when you've had some time, I'd like to hear more about Sune and Zeke, the good times. I, I still think about Willum and Merlyn, the missing pair of my list on the other page, and it still hurts. It always will, as does the loss of my Nan and Grandad, but, when I think of the good times, it makes me think how grateful I am to have had that time I had.

Take care mate. :salute:

Well...to try and bring a little smile to peoples faces, here's something from the internet, some of you may have already seen it. It's a little animation series called "Simons cat" it's becoming quite famous, and well, whoever the creator is, he's obviously owned a cat before ;)

I remember one time when we left a plate of cheeseburgers on our kitchen table while we talked with some friends (This was after a get together at our house). When we came back we discovered that my cat, Boots (An insane desert cat that we picked up on the island of Bahrain), had taken one bite out of each burger and had left everything else alone. One bite, that was it for each burger, and nothing else was touched. :rotfl2: That little devil still gets into all sorts of trouble...

Edit: ROFL, those Simon's Cat videos are spot on!

saved from animal shelter deathrow, there was a nest full of these and his brothers/sisters where all adopted but he remained due one little problem (He has a ruptured navel?) which is easily fixed by a small operation.
Anyway the Animal shelter where planning to put him down:stare:, ain't gonna happen! Some friends of my sister knew this and brought it to her...and well...here is the little bugger :woot:

Hi, 6 months ago I had to take one of my cats to the vet to be put down after a snake bite that also caused him to go blind, yesterday I took my other cat in as it had an ear infection that turned out to be cancer & had to have her put down. I am a cat lover & this particular cat was a good friend always following me where ever I went, a very good companion, anyway I thought I would get another cat & always wanted one such as:

I will try to keep this happy because thats how she made us feel

I can't believe that the night before my cat died I spent a couple of
hours going through your subsim cat thread :o showing my Wife every cat !
You have or in some cases including myself, had some great cats, I will post a pick soon
:sunny:Thanks Puss 4da good times, 9 years. rip.

Took me a few days, so here she is  we called her our dogcat because she would act more like a dog than a cat. Always by your side and follow you everywhere.
She put a smile on our faces and made us laugh :har: Named Snowbell by the kids she was born on that infamous day, September 11, an easy birthday to remember.
This thread is much harder to do than I thought, I must go now. No I am a man of steel and a little rust won't hurt me. We will miss her sitting quietly beside us, wanting nothing than just to be there, love ya Snowbell.:D
