View Full Version : frame rate drag ?
hi hunters.
i seem to be getting drag around dense enviroments like harbors - especially at night. big explosions too.
here is my spec: sh3
amd athlon 64 3800+
2gb ram
gforce 7900gs
windows xp
i disable internet + antivirus before game.
recently went from 1 gig to 2 gig ( for the sake of sh4 - wich is now uninstalled. )
i reckon my spec is more than plenty for sh3 - so can not figure this out. i've tinkered with the obvious stuff
even dropped particle density to about 80% whats the 'synchronicity' thingy by the way?
does someone have an idea as to what is happening ?
many thanks

Harbours are the most demanding area of SH3. You will be doing alright if you have 30-40 FPS while in harbour, the same can be said of explosions. Anything more, don't complain.;) In clear water you should be 100 FPS plus.
The sync option tries to reduce screen 'tearing' by locking your FPS to your monitors refresh rate. I suggest you only use this option if you have a huge surplus of FPS.
You can play with the forced settings within your GFX Card control panel. Reducing AA & AF will help, a lot. Find a good balance.
Also if you are using GWX, you can use the Reduced Habour Traffic mod, this will remove all shipping from the harbour apart from your escort.

thanks for that, it sounds like these issues are quite common to sh3.
i'm sorry though, i dont fully understand the graffix card info - i can do the harbor traffic, though i like seeing them coming and going.
not sure about the syncro info aswell. are you suggesting i try this out - or it will work with my spec as an aid to my problems ?
strangely enough the fps drop didnt seem as aggresive with just the one stick of memory. ( or maybe thats just my selective memory - wishful thinking ! )
when you mentioned the AA and AF does this mean anti-aliasing, something i can adjust through the graffix setting on my system ?
again, cheers, i'll go off and tinker a bit. and yes, while out at sea and in less stressful enviroments the fps is spot on - love the sunsets and bad weather.

If you are not familiar with changing the AA & AF, then leave it alone (Antialsing & Antroscopic Filtering). I.e Jaggies & Quality at distance, repectively.
Leave the Sync option off.
The Light Harbour Traffic mod will dramatically increase your FPS in harbour and in all honesty, how often do you want to see the ships when leaving port? It's a toss up between Eye Candy & Game performance. Choose whichever you value most.;)
i see,
and thank you again !
